Good news: writing to First Lady still helps

Hi,

I have succesfully accelerated Name Check by
writing to First Lady.

My I-485 case was stuck in Name Check for over
a year. On anniversary of the NC I have sent a
letter to First Lady. The letter was forwarded
to FBI and they sent me response in the beginning
of July. The FBI response said that my Name Check
was "in process".

Today I have received "Welcome Notice sent" emails
for me and my dependents. I believe that the
approval was triggered by my letter to the First
Lady.

I have used the letter from this site
as a template. It is similar to template kept
by this mail group. I added my personal details
there and a timeline of everything I have done
so far to speed up the Name Check.

In addition to contacting First Lady, I have contacted
USCIS Ombudsman, initiated a few Service Requests
by calling USCIS 800 number, filed FOIPA request
with FBI, made several InfoPass visits and wrote
to my senator. Neither of this steps helped, except
it produced paperwork necessary for the WoM. I was
going to contact my congressmen and file WoM this
fall.

I will be hanging around here for a few weeks in case you
want to ask me about details. I wish all of you fastest
approval of your cases!

Can you please post the link to the template and possibly run down what documents you attached? 485 Receipt Notices, etc.

Where did you mail it to? I mean address.

Thanks a bunch and enjoy your GC Freedom!:)

Cacheline,

Congratulations on finding your road to freedom path in USA. Thanks for volunteering to help us for any suggestions / clarifications.

You have said FOIPA Request with FBI. What exactly is it and how to raise it? Will appreciate, if you can guide us through the process.

Thanks

Yes, I was wondering the same. 485 applied in Apr 07, and by Aug the person has sent letters to ombudsman and first lady, initiated a few Service Requestsby calling USCIS 800 number, filed FOIPA request with FBI, made several InfoPass visits and wrote to my senator... al in a grand total of 4 months..wow talk about impatience !

Congratulations. This is really nice to hear that contacting first lady works for you. Do send the format of letter and share your experience to everyone..

When did you write letter to First lady? did u send more than one letter? how long it took to get the response from the FBI?

Appriciate if you could post the timelines..

I've sent the letter in the beginning of April and I've sent only one letter. FBI responded
with "FBI Name Check in process" in the end of June. The online status for I-485
changed to "Welcome notice sent" in the beginning of August.

Congratulations to you!:)

Did you send that letter to the white house address and how do you know for sure it was the letter to her that worked?

Yes the letter went to this address:

To: First Lady Mrs Bush
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

I know it helped because its the only letter that was routed to FBI and triggered response
from them. The Senator's office never got to contacting anyone. Ombudsman triggered
an inquiry in USCIS that resulted in their usual useless response.

OK, here goes my letter to Mrs Bush. As I've mentioned before, template
is from this forum. Spelling and grammatical mistakes are all mine :)

Sub: Help with expediting FBI Name Check for Green Card

Dear First Lady,

With reference to the above, I need your help with expediting Name
Check from FBI. My I-485 (Green Card) case was filed April X, 2006.
Now, more than a year later, it is still not processed. According to
USCIS, the reason for delay is FBI Name Check. I have included detailed
information and timeline of my case below for your reference.

I have tried to resolve this problem by contacting USCIS and FBI. I was
told that there is no negative information about me in FBI databases,
yet the Name Check cannot be completed due to some bureaucratic issue.
At this point I have exhausted all ways to improve the situation, and
my only remaining hope is your help.

Delay to my case created numerous problems for me and my family. Many
banks refuse to extend a loan to person who is not Legal Permanent
Resident. My wife has very limited choice of job opportunities because
majority of employers are afraid to hire a person with temporary work
permit. Her career is stalled because of that. The issue with my Green
Card case delays my ability to apply for U.S. Citizenship and reunite
with my parents. Also because I do not have Green Card, I have to pay
hefty fees to let me and my family work and travel.

Could you please kindly assist with expediting FBI Name Check for my
case? Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Please find information about my case below:

Name: XXXXX
Date of Birth: XXXXX

about reasons or expected timelines.

Officer identified himself as XXXXX and repeated
information I have received during 2nd Infopass
appointment.

March XX, 2007 Initiated 2nd USCIS inquiry in my case
Again, response stated that case was delayed due
to background checks but didn't give any
information about reasons or expected timelines.

March XX, 2007 Called Nebraska Service Center
Was told that no information about my case will
be given to my or my attorney due to some USCIS
policy. My request to speak to supervisor was
declined.

Sincerely,
XXXXX

I do not think I've included copies of any documents with this letter. In retrospective,
sending copy of receipt of I-485, approved I-140 and FOIPA response would have been
a smart move.

I contacted USCIS Ombudsman at the same time, and sent him similar letter, hence
it is not in the timeline. I have contacted Senator much later (gave up waiting for
White House) so it is not here either.

[Edit: fixed a few typos]
[Edit2: FWIW, I have sent the letter using certified mail. Rumor is, they open certified mail first. ]
