Going to Canada

Folks,
I'll be going to Canada in a few days (for only one week of vacation). This will be my first time going "out" with the new green-colored RTD. My last outing was with the blue RTD.

Anything I should be aware of when I return to the US? Also, I recalled that when I went back from Canada, the US immigration checkpoint happened in the Canadian airport, not in the US airport. So when I get off SFO airport, it was like going home from a domestic flight.

Should I bring tax return? Or not? Any extra paperwork I need to bring?

Thanks!

lee_haircut5!

Everything is same as on blue RTD. All you need is RTD and Drivers License (or ID). CIS will check you at Canadian airport and thats all. Nobody will ask you anything afterwards. No need for tax returns etc.

make sure when you come back to keep the records of your travel becuse you will need them for you RFE. It looks like that anybody who traveled out of the US is asked by USCIS for RFE.

They may also ask you for I-94.

Shamshon,
My I-94 was stapled to my old "blue" RTD. So I gotta bring that one as well, in case they ask?

Will they ask when I leave the US? Or when I return to the US? I never surrendered my I-94 in my past travels abroad.

Traveling to Canada is not a big deal, whether it is by road or by airplane. Just take your RTD with Canadian visa; Canadians are going to ask you some questions, which is quite normal. Upon your return Immigration will ask your length and purpose of visit to Canada. They might also ask where you live and what you do for a living. No big deal, I have done this many times. Now some immigration officers will have you sit down and they will process you by making you fill an I-94 form, some may not even bother. I have seen both. Just make sure you get to the airport early because if they process you it could take a long time especially in busy airports like Toronto etc; you don’t want to miss your flight. Take it easy and no need to worry. Just keep your travel doc. You can surrender your old I-94 if you want, they wont even ask for it but keep it who you just in case.
Have a good trip.

Just take out the old I-94, you dont need to carry it with your expired RTD. This is how I surrendered my original I-94 from my national passport.

The Canadian folks will only need your RTDs with the visa in it. Just remove your I-94 from your old RTD and prepare it when you reach the US. Have a safe trip!
