Giving birth in us as a fresh dv-immigrants

Hello to all! I have been thinking about this particular issue for too long and I think it's about time I shared with the whole house so that you help me take a better decision in life.
The issue is that, we are planing to move to the State as DV-immigrants but my wife is pregnant. And I have been educated that, given birth in US is advantageous as the child automatically becomes a citizen of US. In view of this I've planned to leave as soon as possible so that she joins me early next year to deliver and by the time she arrives, I might have been able to secure our own apartment.

I think the idea is good but one question keeps on lingering on my mind, that's can we afford our medical bills upon delivery? I understand accessing medical care in US is very expensive.

So I need an advice from anyone who has gone through such experience before and also from anybody who knows how I could make things affordable when my wife joins me. Thank you to you all
 
Don't worry, lot of Hospitals in US have made packages for expectant mothers at reduced cost that you can pay for in installments for people without health insurances.
For example a good friend of mine signed for a package for $2500 for normal delivery and $3500 for C-Section if needed and that included three pre natal visits and delivery. He paid $500 advance and was setup with monthly payments, it was back in 2005 so it might be little more now. It also depends if you are in bigger US cities, like in Newyork city you might pay a lot more than that. This example is from someone that was in Saint Louis, MO.

I understand your concerns about the cost of pre-natal care and delivery in the US. When you travel ahead you can research the different options/packages that are available and the associated costs but remember that childbirth can have unforeseen problems and costs.

If your child is born outside of the US, he/she will be granted the green card when the mother enters the US to activate her GC. I'm not sure about the details but this has been discussed here before, search for the thread to see the persons' experiences. The child will gain citizenship once you or your wife choose to gain citizenship after 5 years.
Please keep in mind that your wife also need to activate her GC before the 6 month period and she may not be allowed to travel after 36-38 weeks of pregnancy.

When it comes to govt. 'health and human svcs', there are still some states (NOT the fed gov though!!) in US that follow the 'civilized' universal version of classifying 'mother' and 'child' irrespective of them being citizen or , having (or not) a piece of govt 'document' with them. NY, MN, OH, IL, MI, MO are some ex.

My advise is come asap.

BUT....select carefully the state that you are going to reside. Go to their state govt. website and to their 'STATE MEDICAID' website and see whether they cover non-citizen expectant Moms. (usually it is handled by the state's health and human svcs dept)

When the child is born he/she is automatically covered 100%, under federal law.

Usually the ONLY criteria (fed or state) that need to be provided is that the income is below 185% of fed. poverty level guide.

baby will become a citizen automaticly not related to your own status as a GC holders
you will have to applay for free medicaid but that might be considered as public assistance considering that you won GC on the lottery and there is a strick rule that you can not ask for that kind of financial help .... it might be a solution but it takes time to figure that one .. all in all you have an option to pay and its gona be around 5 grand
for most ''popular ''states (ca,ny,il, etc) in some states hospitals might have lower rates but i highly doubt its more then 10-+
pitty you are hitting that hard decision thing already in your first week of emigrating but that is the nature of this coutry where you coming ..show me the money FIRST!!! as it goes popular quote

in normal countries you wont have a worry on your mind in this kind of situation
thats the reason why people here have max one child or usualy none at all and why it needs freesh blood ie immigrants in millions ..system is set like that long time ago
ps i love the system here .. its ruthless and without a pity which gives you an egde to say f..k you to everyone asking for mercy or money to borrow .. heheheh

Make sure you know what the medical costs will be since one doctor might tell you his costs but the hospital may charge you for the room, and another doctor for his costs...Don't get a $ surprise afterwards and medical bills because in the USA they will come after you for medical bills, as they should...otherwise the rest of us has to pay for you.

If you plan to stay in CA and your income is not lower than poverty line nor overly high.
You may also consider "AIM" program. Hope it helps.

DID I MENTIONED THAT THE USA IS VERY COMPASIONATE COUNTRY WITH EQUALY HUMANE CITIZENS...HEHEHEHEHE:D
THAT SAID REMEMBER TO PAY YOUR MEDICAL/HOSPITAL BILLS BECAUSE AS BANTLEBEE SAID WE WOULD HAVE TO CHIP IN ....AND I FRANKLY DID NOT DO THAT FOR A DEAR COUSIN OF MINE WHO DIED OF CANCER(HE COULD NOT AFFORD LATEST TREATMENT FOR LACK OF MONEY)..AND IF WE DO PAY FOR YOU .. I'LL COME TO YOUR HOUSE TO COLLECT MY SHARE OF THE MONEY:cool:
 
There is always something called "health insurance"....I have a high deductable so we pay out of pocket for small costs, and for accidents or unforseen health issues that are costly we have a health ins. which will pay for it.
 
maybe you should just give birth first and then move to the USA .. it would save A LOT OF STRESS ,MONEY AND ALL KINDS BULL S..T ... just a thought -its not gonna matter to your child anyway unless she/he is planing to travel around with US passport first thing after coming to this world .....:cool:
