Getting Unrestricted SS Card

Hi there,

I received my asylum status on Jan 27 and applied for an unrestricted social security card the first week of February. The lady told me that it takes 2 weeks to receive. After the wait, I went back to inform them that I did not get it. Another lady there took a copy of my EAD and told me that she was requesting an eVerify to make sure I was legit. She infomed me I would receive a letter within 4 weeks to state whether I was approved or not. Since it's been 6 weeks, I called SSA today and the agent told me that they they were able to verify my identity but were waiting for USCIS to verify. He gave me a USCIS customer service number to call. I called the number and the lady told me that it's most likely they didn't update my information after my asylum application was approved. She told me to make an infopass appointment to make sure they updated my info. Does this sound right? How can my info be not updated? Afterall, I was able to track my EAD card process.

Thanks in advance

I've same exact situation going on. When I came to USCIS at local place. They issue me a new I94 with the new status and seal on it and the USCIS employer has told me. All I need to do is I have to go to SSA and they should be able to give my unrestricted SS card. After a week I came in to local SSA and find out from SSA employee that they still didn't receive any information regarding my case in their system. I called to National Immigration Call Center and didn't get any luck from them. Because of I'm an Asylee they don't have any information regarding my case. They say they won't be able to open my profile in their system. Bottom line, I had to make an appointment with USCIS local office and talk to them face to face. We will see what is going to be happened. Stay in touch.

If you have unexpired EAD category A05, then you should ask the SSA employee to use it to verify the status. They use the online system called "SAVE" to verify the immigration status. Keep in mind that sometimes SAVE system can't find the I-94 numbers because those numbers are added manually and it takes time to update. However, all biometric cards such as green cards, EAD, etc are available in SAVE system immediately.

Anyway, to avoid delays, you should always use your EAD category A05. Do not use I-94.

I hear you, Galluccio!

Thanks assylum! When I went back after two weeks, she did take a copy of my EAD. I guess I will go there tomorrow morning and suggest they use SAVE. I'll report my findings. Wish me luck!

You should have given her your EAD(A05) the first time you went there. I think she could not run SAVE query when you went the second time because she already submitted the verification form manually to CIS and she has to wait for a response.

Ask her if she can re-do the application and cancel the pervious one and start over again by using your EAD(A05) and see if she can run a new verification query through SAVE program. If she gives you hard time, ask to talk to a supervisor.

Keep in mind that SAVE program is different from E-Verify.
SAVE program is used by federal and state agencies such as SSA,DMV,financial aid programs, etc
E-Verify is used only by employers and it is linked to SSA database and SAVE program

If you can't get unrestricted SS card, then E-verify will not be able to verify your employment eligibility and your employer will ask you to go resolove the issue with the SSA office. Your employer can not fire you because of this issue unless you choose not to resolve it.

Thanks assylum! So I went in today and suggested they use SAVE. The lady did not object and took her a minute to verify. She then gave me a letter saying I will receive the card within 2 weeks - it's the same letter they've been giving me the past two times. I also called their 1-800 number just for good measure. The agent there checked and told me that yes, it's now been verified. Again, thanks much assylum!

Cheers,

Question for assylum - Does it mean I shouldn't worry about my info being updated in the USCIS system, or I should go ahead and make an infopass appt just to be sure.

Cheers,

Your information is already updated in uscis system and that is why the online verification program "SAVE" was able to verify your asylee status. The SSA office will not issue unrestricted SS card if they can not verify your asylee status. You do not need to make an info pass. You should be fine now.
