Getting married to a US Citizen! Questions!

Hello All-

I am a native of South Africa, went to high school, college, graduate school and have worked in the U.S. about 5 years. I am getting married soon to a US citizen. She is white. We are filing for a spouse based green card for me. How long is the process in the New England area (Boston).
I have a very good job (currently on H1B set to expire in 2 years)
have always been employed and in good immigration status. I heard from someone that people who are marrying different ethnicity (Black-White)
may need to show more evidence of marriage legitimacy than others.
Is this true? What information do we need to collect to be on the safe
side? Has anyone been in a situation like mine and can you share your experiences?

I also posted a question about a criminal dismissal (driving on a suspeded license because I had forgotten to pay a ticket) earlier. The case was dismissed once they found out that the fine had been paid. Does this also need to be disclosed and can it pose a problem.

Sorry about all the questions, just a bit nervous about the whole thing.

Thanks much

No Title

Collect all, and any, evidence of a "good faith" marriage (joint owenership of cars, houses etc., children\'s birth certificates, joint insurance certificates, joint bank accounts, joint tax returns etc. etc. etc.). There is no way that the INS could admit to bias against your situation, nor should they do anything that could be contrued as such. On the other hand, they can require a lot of evidence from any couple, ignoring issues of race. If you go in with armfuls of paper, they may not bother to look at much of it.

Time period can vary, allow about a year in most areas - I\'ve no specific knowledge about yours.

It is advisable not to cover up anything. If it later turns out that you have lied to them, they are more likely to hold that against you than a minor, dismissed, action of the type you described.
They can forgive minor offences that do not paint you as "undesirable;" however, lying is considered a big no-no.

Good luck.

John

More Evidence

Due to increase in fradulent GC cases, INS is insisting for more evidence. EVidence like having pictures of both of you like while attending functions, visiting parents .. They just need to believe that your case is genuine .. Good luck

Americian husband with charges marries Canadian wife

My husband and I have been married since Nov.14/99 and March of 2000 he was convicted of a drug charge in the us. He is being released March 2001 and would like to come home to me in Canada. This is where our home is and where I work. I have a good job and we have started our life here. He was on a ministers permit before this offense and I want to know if I should reapply for that. As well he will be given authorization from the judge who sentenced him permission to leave the us to be with me in canada. So it\'s up to immigration of Canada if they will allow back in Canada. He has a job lined up too.

Geting married - and dont know what to do next

HI
I am form Poland and currently I am on student visa, in a couple months I am about to get married and I really don\'t know how that works , what should I do next , and probably I should mention that my fiance is american, please help us

Don\'t worry

ok in alot of cases people seem to get all troubled up over marriage and seem to think if you get married from a outer range you seem to think you can\'t get married, just take that extra step and who gives a damn of what other people have to say, and don\'t worry and stress just take positive actions.

Here is a idea!!

If your wanting to see your partner for life you should probally take a stand and make some kind of deal with goverment to come back to the us and you may want to talk to your spouse and see if maybe he could contact goverment for you.
