German transit visa info...

I just got my German transit visa done last week and wanted to share this information for anyone who is planning on getting one.

I have an expired visa stamp in the passport although I do have a valid H1 and I94. I emailed to the German consulate and they indicated that I do need the transit visa. You can apply for a transit visa if you have a valid I94, even though their website mentions "valid visa" as one of the requirements.

Few points to take care of...

1) Make sure that you notirize the application. The stupid people at the German consulate returned my entire application because the it was not notarized. They don\'t bother mentioning this point either on the application or on their website.

2) If you are married and also applying for your spouse, inlcude a copy of the marriage certificate.

3) Include either the originals or certified copies of all the paperwork (including marriage certificate, I94 etc.) I went to a natory here to get my copied certified, but they said they could not certify certain kind of paperwork citing some Texas state law. So I sent in the originals of the H1 and H4 approvals and the marriage certificate.

4) They return back the passports and any originals within a day of two of them receiving it. In my case, the fees were $34 ($10 each for myself and my spouse and $14 for mailing the passports back).

5) The validity period of the transit visa is just one week. So make sure that your travel plans are pretty firm before applying. I didn\'t know this and will now have to travel during that week itself. They need some kind of proof regarding dates of travel (itenarary, tickets etc.) In my case, I just sent them a copy of my itenarary which I got from my travel agent.

Let me know if you have any more questions and I will try to answer them.

Is there any problem with while coming back ...

Since your VISA will be cancelled and you will be carrying the visa packet, is there any problems while coming back via Frankfurt?

Thanks CPMumbai... please chk your Pvt. message

I would have not opted Lufthansa...If I knew this before. Anyway I also need a Transit Visa and will be applying for one soon.

I will definetely notarize my App. too.
Do we need to send original H1 extension, or a notarized copy would do ?

please check ur Prvt. Message.

Thanks

No I haven\'t...

I just put them on hold anticipating an August interview. Plus, with the German consulate website mentioning "valid visa" as one of the requirements to get a transit visa, I was not sure if they would issue me the transit visa. So I wanted to get this done beforehand so that I could plan on flying another airline just in case.

I sent Mumbai an email again asking whether they recd my case. I might go ahead and book the tickets after I get a reply from them. The problem is that from Dallas, Lufthansa is the only airline which has just one stopover going to India and is the most convenient to fly.

Thanks for the Info ....

I personally feel that try to go through London or Amsterdam if ur I-94 as expired ...
There should be no problem coming back but I am not taking any chances through France/German or Switzerland .... Even the Swiss need the transit visa ... checked their website ...

Notirzed copies should be sufficient....

I could not get it notarized, so I sent in the originals. You can probably get your lawyer to certify the copy.

hello CPmumbai, should everyone get a TRANSIT VISA

should everyone get a TRANSIT VISA when going through Frankfurt. or is it only for expired visas/expired \'h1\'/expired \'i-94\' etc...
Please clarify.

It is only for people with expired visa stamp or expired I94...

If you have a valid I94 and a valid visa stamp in your passport, you do not need a transit visa according to their website.

why transit visa is required?

Hi guys,
I don\'t have much idea about transit visa. But why we require transit visa? If one has expired visa, but valid I-94 and if you travel from US to India through any country, then i guess immigration check is done only at US when you leave. At in-between stops, you just change your flight and terminal and i guess they check only your ID and ticket. Please clarify If I am wrong.
Do they check visa at each country where you stop?
any idea...comments...

They will check your passport in the US itself...

The airline agents where you are boarding the flight will check for the valid visa/transit visa. Again, there is so much confusion about this issue that I think even the airline agents are not consistent about the policy. But I have seen some posts in which they would not allow the person to board the flight. So, to be on the safe side get a transit visa if your visa stamp has expired and if traveling through Germany or Paris.

Just called up DELTA airline and

customer representative told me that I need TRANSIT VISA (she asked me whether I\'m US citizen) without asking my status in this country. On the other side travel agent told me that that it was compulsory till may 9 and then they discontinued the procedure.

On the safer side, I\'m going to have transit visa for me and family since my VISA is expired but have valid H1 extension.

Do we need Transit visa for any other country other than Germany ?

My visa stamp and I - 94 both expired. I have a valid H1 extension on which I am working. Do we need the Transit Visa for flight change in London ? Which countries need Transit Visa in Europe..

Akashvani

Once again .... Transit visa is only required for Paris/ Frankfurt/ Zurich if ur

visa stamp on the passport has expired ....

U can obtain a transit visa from the consulates of the above mentioned countries but for that u will need a valid I-94.

If ur I-94 has also expired then ur only option is London/ Amsterdam/ Milan/ Singapore/ Moscow ...

Regarding transit visa

NVC sent my Packet-3 to Chennai consulate on June 27th. I will be expecting CP
Interview early september. My six years on H1B expires on August 20, 2002.
I had my H1B visa revalidated in St. Louis upto August 20th. My wife also has
Upto August 20th. Here I have couple of questions regarding the TRANSIT visa.

My wife is planning to leave on Aug 15th to India. Does she need a transit visa?

I am planning to leave just one week before the CP interview. If my interview is
In early september, then I will leave after Aug 20th. So Do I need a TRANSIT
Visa if I go via Frankfurt , Germany.? If I go after August 20th, It seems I can
Not get the Germany's transit visa because of my visa and I-94 expiration.

I think I need to go by British Airways or Korean and not Lufthansa.
