You know it always amazes me to see Germany's new role in the world. Compared to most European countries, Germany admits the biggest numbers of immigrants and adjusts their status very quickly. Germany is sponsoring many human right organizations in different countries. They also stand up against fascist Bush's racist war on Iraq. Now, you cemented my opinion about Germany when you posted this document. Of course, no country is perfect. They allowed many Islamic terrorists, including one of the 9/11 hijackers. They also have a growing neo-nazi movement that targets minorities. They also have high unemployment rate due to the union they made between East and West Germany in 1990. Yet, i still believe it is the most humanistic country in Europe. When I tried to obtain a visa for France, England, Italy and even freaken Greece, I went through much pain to get it.

Shamson, I think you are wrong. Germany is the worst "humane" country in the european capital. I have maybe 400-500 realtives in Germany, all who got there in 1990's and they still can't TRAVEL anywhere. They have no status.

Germany doesn't grant asylum as U.S Does. As a matter of fact, We should be thankful that at least we get a response from the INS...Deny or approved. Germany lets asylum seekers status hung for decades. They dont deny it or approve it..They just say We will see but beware we may deport you tommorow.

Any immigrant in Germany is scared of the Police. I have been to germany maybe 10-12 times and when I traveled with my family to frankfurt or to another "state" of germany such as berlin..they would see the police and basically freak out.

German Police Control is the worst and the best. Best for the country to wade out illegals but worst for in-status ppl who can't travel out of their own states such as frankfurt to berlin...They are not allowed. They need a special permission to travel in GERMANY.

Imagine, you are an asylum seeker and you apply for your asylum..and you need a special permission to travel from Washington D.C To Maryland. Thats not allowed if you were under german laws...and d.c to md is only 15 miles.

Germany has the most disgusting attitude among their ppl. Even though Nazism is gone from the country....50% of the population still detests foreigners of any kind or race...There are events EVERDAY where some german hurts anotehr foreigner..turkish,afghan,irani.etc!..

Just because they allow asylees to travel without a visa doesn't mean its a humane country.

Germany does not even give citizenship to people who are born in the country.

I kinda agree with "wantmygcnow". Germany does not ever give citizenship to any foreigner. I have heard even if you marry a german citizen, you get a different kind of passport.

While this one is new to me that you have to obtain permission to travel to another state in Germany, but as a foreigner you have to carry your immigration papers at all times and police is known to stop "foreign looking" people all the time and asking for papers.

I have been stopped numerous times in Germany while in Malls, Rail Stations, Library and once in Mcdonalds to show my "auswiese" or Id...I didn't care but after few times, I made sure to have some fun with the Police. When the said Auswiese, I simply showed my License!....Hey thats an ID..It pisses them off!

They are so pathetic that soemtimes they would stand outside the train stations and when the train stops they would Look through the windows to see if any "suspected" illegal was in the train and then would board the train!..

Funny part is..even if they apprehend the illegal, they can't deport them because german law you have to prove you are the citizen of a country..an illegal basically then applies for asylum..and it goes round and round!..

And the permission to travel to different states in Germany is due to many asylum seekers would travel to france and apply for asylum there and get free money..European countries give welfare to everyone..even their own citizens..Every kid born in Germany gets 200 euros per month for the rest of his life until he/she is 18...Even if you are a millionare, the 200 euros apply to you...

Everythign in germany closes at 2pm on saturday/sunday. EVEN MCDONALDS Or Burger Kings...Germany is known for the laziest ppl int he world...To work in a store such as walmart or 7-eleven, you need to complete a 2-3 year course called "haus-buldung". Even to mop the floor you need to complete a course...The reason they have bad economy is due to bad business practises...The reason of jobless rate is due to bad business practies. Germans/europeaons have NO BRAIN....

If everything is closed sat/sun..how will money be pumped into the economy? 80% of business is done on the weekends in the U.S!

I stayed in germany for 6 months last year due to an emergency and I was thankful that a place like U.S exists..even with the asylee cap and all!...God Bless this country!

Germany in '94-'95 kicked out thousands of political asylees from east Europe/Balkans that been living there since the falling of communism. The same is UK doing now.
As far as Economy goes the unemployment is at 11%+. I deal with construction machinery and the market is being flooded with second hand machines from German construction companies going out of business.

Gee, I did not know all of that! Do you have to make me lose faith in humanity? I guess once a nazi will always be a nazi huh :D

Facts, facts

You guys need to look up some facts. First of all, Germany took 2 million refugees from the Balkans and was very upfront with them: they gave them temporary asylum. Not permanent asylum like we have here. During this time, these people largely did not work (either because they could not or did not want to), their kids got free education, they got money from the gov't. So Germany DID NOT KICK ANYONE out, their status simply ended. In my mind, isn't it better to save 2 million lives, then to permanently admit just 10,000 refugees?

Secondly, Germans are NOT lazy. They just respect family life. When I look at exhausted Walmart workers here who cannot afford even health insurance it's hard to be jealous. If less people worked around the clock, there would be no high school shootings, suicides, prozac etc. Everything has it's advantages.

I can't believe you would call Germans lazy. Nothing is broken in that country. Here, if a road sign is broken in cities, public transit stairs, anything, it stays decrepid and broken for months. Not over there. Everything is working, EVERYTHING is on time. Everything is clean. The roads don't have huge holes. Every elderly and disabled person is completely taken care of. That does not happen in a lazy nation.

Additionally, Germans are efficient in the work place. You don't have to "follow up" 17 times for everything.

Lastly, unemployment is measured differently in different countries. In the US, you are considered EMPLOYED even if you work 2 hours per week. So while the numbers may be blossoming, the reality is somewhat different.

I love this country and am happy to be here, but there are things we can learn from others.

You won't dispute the fact that they status terminated and they told them to leave Now you may call that different ways but for somebody that during the temporary status got a good job, was getting paid in a month the same amount that it was getting paid in a year or two in his country, creating a family having kids, going to school, learning to speak German and one day getting a letter telling him to leave don't you think is kicking him out? Just because they told them before doesn't make it better than here where you get perm status once approved.

I agree with you that Germans are not lazy and their work quality is high (I drive a MB and love it) but it's a fact that the economy now is struggling and unemployment is high reason might be the unions might be the tax policy depends who you talk to over there.
I don't know about Wal-Mart workers without HC I would think Wal-Mart has good benefits.
Also I agree with the notion of learning from others I love the European way of enjoying life (not as much Germans but Italians, Greeks) you know going out every night, the restaurants, the espresso shops I would like more of that here.

Of course I won't dispute it. Of course it was not good for them> I would have hated to be in that position. But if you truly are a refugee from say Bosnia, and your life was threatened, and your friends' and families', would you rather say: "Oh, I'll leave half of my family here to die" and go get permanent status because Germany only takes 10,000 people? no, eveyrone was happy to get away from bombs.

Germany protected most lives of all first world countries during that conflict.
A small European country CANNOT be expected to accept 2 million people legally in such a short time. Esp. because they give them benefits and everything, unlike here. They did a big humanitarian act and now they are getting crap for it. That is not cool.

Walmart:

http://www.walmartswaronworkers.com/kb.php?ToDo=view&questId=28&catId=36

and it is not just walmart, many companies don't pay benefits for their workers. And it's hard for the companies too! But if the gov't pays for health insurance for everyone, of coures it is difficult. All of Europe is struggling with that.

I'm not giving them crap and appreciate what they did but the comparison was made with the states and I think here is better treatment. BTW I edited my last post you might won to read What kind of espresso you like I just got a pavoni lever machine

OK, good move! I needed to pipe down :) ...Not sure why I am so defensive about Germans, ha ha!

I love all kinds of espresso, and good for you for getting a machine!

Uh, I'd better go work now, after all - we are not in Europe, ha ha

Last year I was asked for papers by 3 german police officers in ugly Green uniform just 5 minutes after exiting cologn/Bohn airport.I was coming from London and was on my way to catch the train for Frankfurt.God bless my New York State Driver License has been used as proof of my US citizenship.I couldn't understand what they were saying in german. They took a quik look on my NY state DL and let me go to the train station.
Another amazing thing is I was asked to pay money for a plastic bag in a supermaket in Limburg(2 hours away by train from frankfurt) where I was buying food with my friend who told me that if you don't want spend money for a Plastic bag to take your food home, you need to carry your own bags from your home.

Wow, I did not know about that. One of my relatives lives in Germany, she did not tell me about this.

That is routine in germany. I travel a lot there so I play with them when they ask for my "Auswiese" or ID in english... German has lots of problem with illegal immigration and per their law, any Officer can ask you. I was even stopped on the autobahn(highway) because I looked suspicious to them.

And yes to buy plastic bags in germany is 25 cents. If you buy a coke bottel, you pay 25 cents for the bottle but get it back when you return. That is ok because they want to control waste..with a small country like Germany...imagine how much they save by recycling rather than throwing it away as they did before...
