Hello,

We're naturalized citizens and have applied for my wife's parents and sister (19 years old) individually; sponsoring Parents and Sibling. Now the parents are getting the greencard, can THEY (the parents) apply for their daughter (the 19 yo sister), since it would be a faster process or can only one application be pending at a time? Also after the parents receive the greencard, will they have to come to the US since it will be impossible for them to leave their daughter behind since she is over 18 and will not automatically receive a GC? Please let us know, thanks in advance...

yes, they can apply for her GC. Things will go faster if they get citizenship - and for that they have to be physically present in the U.S. for a certain amount of time. You probably know about that.

They cannot leave the States for more than a year without first applying for reentry permit (form I-131) - otherwise they are abandoning their permanent residency here.

Thank you Lucy for your help, I was also wondering though, after the PARENTS receive the greencard, they can come to the states and apply for the daughter, is there any way you may know to do it faster though since it would break the family apart if 19yo cannot come together. OR can they stay where they are and apply until she also receives her greencard so they wont be apart?
