GC for parents

I am a GC holder (got recently..see my sig for details) and I am thinking of doing a GC for my parents. I am their only child and they r in good health right now..but considering their ages (60+), I will need to support them 5-10 years from now. At that time, I will prefer to have them here as LPRs since I do not intend to go back to India. I have a few questions:
1. Considering that I am a (recent) GC older, can I apply for their GC?
2. If yes, will this adversely affect my Citizenship application (5 years from now)?
3. roughtly, how long will it take to get their GC? Will it be faster if I wait till I get my Citizensihp before applying for their GC?

(I know a lot of things can change in 5-7 years..but I will ike to know these answers based on the current availabler informtion)

Permanent Residents (you) can not sponsor their parents, married children or siblings for a Green Card.

You will have to wait until you become a citizen (in 5 years) and then you will be able to sponsor them as immediate relatives, which will get them a GC in about 1 year (subject to namecheck) which means they are looking at 6-7 year wait before you can sponsor them.

PraetorianXI,

Thanx for the prompt reply..1 more question: Once I become a Citizen and appy for their GC, is the 1-year estimate realistic? (looking at the Family based retro from the visa bulletin, the wait for India is currently 5 years..or Is the visa bulletin for some other Family-based ?)

Thanx,

Look at the visa bulletin again. What FB category do parents fall under? ;)

Parents are immediate relatives and as such do not require a visa number or a priority date wait. A visa number is always available.

thanx..I did not see parents in any of the FB categories..and was not sure where they come under..

Thanx for the info that "Parents are immediate relatives and as such do not require a visa number or a priority date wait"..hopefully, that will noot change 5-6 years from now when the time comes to file GC for my parents.

Thanx

A parent of a USC comes under IR5 category. An "immediate relative" has no wait for a visa number (i.e. PD becomes immediately current) so the only delay is how long it takes to process the I-130 and CP. This could of course change in the future if Congress ever manages to push through an immigration bill that limits family-based visa numbers.

Apologies for being pedantic, but again - this isn't family-based immigration. :)

While clearly Congress could limit IR numbers, not even Tom "I'm not anti-immigrant, I just don't believe we should let anyone be one based on their own abilities" Tancredo suggests limiting the IR numbers.
