My wife who is a naturalized USC wants to apply for GC for her mother who is currently visiting us on a B2 visa. Her mother came to US in Dec and her I-94 expires on June 27, 2011.

I understand that we can file I130 and I485 concurrently for her mother. If we do that, can she stay in US until her GC is approved? Does filing on I485 automatically allow her to stay in US until the GC is approved? Or do we have to apply for extension of B2 for her to stay in US until her GC is approved? The visitor visa extension approval is currently taking six months.

How long can we expect the approval to take? We live in Texas.

No extension is needed. Don't waste the money.

Did anyone ask your mother-in-law IF she actually WANTS to immigrate to the U.S.?

Yes, yes and no respectively.

It should take under 12 months on average.
