GC application for Sister

Hi I am a US citizen and want to apply for my sister's immigration under family based greencard scheme. I know that her husband would become eligible to immigrate with her, but would her son be eligible as well? He is going to turn 18 years old in May 2010.

If he is over 21 when their GC is approved he would not be eligible. You are looking at a fairly long period of time (~10 years) before your sister and her family (excluding children over 21) can get their GC.

Assuming that a visa number is available in 12 years time, the 18 year old will age out if USCIS takes less than 9 years to approve the I-130.

Hello, will it be faster if I sponsor my parents first and then they file a petition for their married daughter with kids ?

I've heard it takes 15-24 months for parents to get here, another 3 yrs to become eligible for citizenship and almost 12 months to get their citizenhip would add upto 5-6 years. Any idea how long will it take after they become citizens to sponsor their married daughter ?

Also wondering if a GC holder can sponsor his parents and if so, how long does that take ?

Thanks everyone.

Parents of a US citizen can usually obtain a green card in less than a year. Often less than 6 months. But it will take them 5 years to obtain citizenship (assuming they will not take an unlikely route that would enable them to get citizenship faster, such as marrying a US citizen or joining the US military).

A permanent resident cannot sponsor his/her parents.

For a USC parent sponsoring a married son/daughter and their kids, the wait time is almost 9 years (except for Mexico and Philippines which are 18 years). See the Family third preference category in the visa bulletin: http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/bulletin/bulletin_4575.html
