I had a question as of do i need to inform Fulbright if I plan to apply for asylum? It is written in their manual that a grant holder should inform the fulbright about every step while in the US. Thank you.

it's up to you if you want to inform them "as if it would matter"

remember that you have the right to apply for asylum if you fear of persecution in home country, your relation might end with fulbright after asylum

I wanted to ask a similar question before. I'm here on a similar (but not Fulbright) scholarship, and, not knowing exactly what to do, I went ahead with my application without informing the benefactors. I'm waiting for a decision on my application to be made. Perhaps, you may need to consult the International Students (Legal Aid) Office of your school. Whatever they got to say.. I think it's entirely up to you to decide whether you should seek protection(asylum) or not. Note that Fulbright may have certain terms and conditions for sponsoring your studies here, for example, that "you must return to your home country after your studies...". So, if you show intention of not returning home, that could create some unexpected changes in your sponsorship.

It is up to you.

My experience is that the people who run Fulbright (and similar scholarship programs) are not happy to know that scholarship holders want to apply for asylum. This damages the program's relationship with your country of origin and makes its future work harder.

You should bear in mind that this is the United States and you do not have to report your every move to any one (other than the USCIS). Use your freedom.

My advice is no. You should not inform Fulbright. Also, US government will keep all asylum cases secret so you don't have to worry.

I read somewhere on the internet that for those who have two years home residency requirement the standard of proof of political persecution in higher?

is that right?

dont tell fulbright. fulbright grant is spent to develop your country. so by telling them that you are trying to leave your country would immediately jeopardise your fellowship. get the fellowship first then try for asylum.
by disclosing the information to them, you are not going to get any immigration benefit.

I don't think the chance is higher if you are required 2 year residency. The chance maybe lower as the asylum officer may suspect your motive of applying for asylum. Your motive might not due to the real persecution but because of the 2 year rule.
