I was searching on the forums and i wasn't able to find any post of this case (Americans or mexicans working in Canada with TNs), and it's weird realizing that Canadian Government has a more open immigration policy than in the US, i've read that in order to work in Canada you must have a temporary work permit even if you hold a TN, is that true?

Thanks

Ricardo

The temporary work permit IS the 'TN'. TN is the US term for the NAFTA work permit.

Canada simply calls it something else, which is their right of course.

Thanks nelsona, so what are the benefits of applying for a temp work permit in Canada being a TN citizen? i've contacted some canadian employers but they aren't aware of TNs, they only know about the residence procedure with a job letter (sponsorship), which is time consuming and expensive.

I don't think there are any special provisions for US/Mexico citizens to work in Canada. They have to follow the same route as citizens of other countries.

That's not correct. NAFTA provides a mechanism for them to work in Canada, just like the TN in the US.

C'mon. NAFTA is tri-lateral, eh? It even provides for yanks and Cdns to work in Mexico.

You need to go on a Cdn immigration forum.

And you should probabaly avoid using the term 'TN' when talking about Cdn immgration. Say NAFTA country, if you wish. TN is an USCIS term.

... and here are the NAFTA benefits for Cdn employers:
