folks who have filed 485 , waiting for receipt/EAD and got laid off - what options do they have?

for folks who have filed 485 , waiting for receipt/EAD and got laid off

-would they have to go out off the country?
-can they stay in US until they get their EAD before they look for work
 again?

AOS is a valid status and that is not affected by the employer firing you.
But to work again, you better be in possession of the EAD and avoid unnecessary travel till you get your AP.

What do you mean by AOS is a valid status? Did you mean that after filing it you won\'t go out of status and can stay in country even if you loose your job?

After filing AOS even if you loose job and H1 visa the status is still legal. You will not be out of status
