Hi everyone!! Im going back to Canada to renew my TN visa next week', same employer, same job. My employer sent me a letter along with my supporting documents,it is stated in the letter that my TN will be extended for 2 years more..but I heard from my co-worker, it shouldn't be 2 years, only 1 year extension, because the officer might be suspicious in my stay? Is this true? Please enlighten me. Appreciate your response. Thank you..

Your co-worker is correct. TN renewal request should NEVER be for more than 1 year..Officer will not be just suspicious, your TN could get rejected right away!

Letter should not say extension. It usually has to say new employment. Avoid the words "renewal" or "extension".

There is no problem with the word extension or renewal.

The 2 year thing is fatal however.

thank you very much Nelsona, bigboy00, and simsd.... so, I have to ask my employer to change the request letter for renewal of my TN.. what is the best way to say the letter? it should be 1 year only and thats it... I'm afraid to be rejected again.

thanks Nelsona!!! the letter says:

Subject: Request for Extension of TN Status for Canadian Citizen
Beneficiary: Mr. XXX

Dear Sir/madam:

Our company XXXX, intends to continue to employ Mr. XXXX for two more years ...

I need to know how exactly make it.

Change "two" to "one".

I would remove the words "extension of", but that is not crucial.

Is it really that hard to understand what has been posted here?

Nelsona, thanks in a million... Now I understand.. Appreciates all your answers. You are simply the best ;) and the rest of the GURU... I hope everything will be fine next week. cross my fingers... :):)

I'm just telling you from personal experience, they (the special cases officer in San Ysidro) told me the letter couldn't say extension or renewal. It had to be ambiguous and act as though it was the first time you were working for the company - like you were starting all over again. They said "we don't do extensions or renewals" - just leave those words out.

one more question.... my offer letter from my employer is 2 years employment.. is this okey referring to the letter to USCIS for 1 year " new employment "?
