Fire: EAD Expires and Local office rejects temp EAD

I applied for renewal of my EAD 7/1/02 and haven't received approval and my current one is expiring in a month. The local office refuses to give temp EAD saying after 9/11, they no longer give out temp EAD. Is that true? What can I do at this point?

Why didn't you apply for EAD at Local INS office to begin with ? I thought when you have Local INS office in your city then you can apply for EAD and AP at Local INS office, atleast it is like that in Cincinnati, OH. My H1B expires at end of Nov but I still haven't applied for my EAD because when I inquired with Local INS office they told me it takes only 3-4 weeks to get EAD here. So I still have some time.

But I think if its 90 days and your EAD still pending Approval at service center then you may go to Local INS Office and get the Interim EAD.

Which service center did did you apply for EAD ?

refuses to have anything to do with EAD from the beginning. There is only one uniformed officer working there. If she says no, there is nothing else I can do.

Go to the nearest District office to get interim EAD. Only they are authorized to issue interim EAD. Find your nearest office from INS website.
If your application is pending with one of the service centers, you cannot apply for regular EAD and AP with your local INS office.
