Fingerprint Rescheduling ?

My wife and I sent in our N-400 on July 28, 2007 and got notice on Nov 27, 2007 for Fingerprint date for both of us - for Dec 18, 2007.
However, I am out of the country (in India) and scheduled to return to the US only on Dec 24, 2007. If I really need to I can probably pay the fare difference plus change fee and reschedule my flight and return a week earlier. Should I return for the fingerprint date or is it Ok to reschedule without causing too much delay in the application ?
The notice says that rescheduling the fingerprinting will delay your application (not may delay - but the words are WILL delay !)

Thanks for any inputs on this !

Postponing your fingerprint to a later date would most likely delay your application. Have you tried contacting the fingerprint place itself to see if they can reschedule you for an earlier date or to see if they have walk in appointments?

Can I reschedule directly with the fingerprint place ? If I can do I need to inform UCIS via a written notice ?
My notice has the location of the ASC - but no contact tel no etc. Is this the place to call to check if they have walk in appointments ?

Thanks for the info.

What ASC were you asked to attend? You may be able to find their telephone number online and call them to see if they have walk in appointments.

Your Fingerprint notice has VERY CLEAR instructions at the bottom of the page under the rublic " REQUEST FOR RESCHEDULING".

this is very clear, definitely - "...check this box for NEXT AVAILABLE Wednesday or NEXT AVAILABLE Saturday..."

I agree it's very clear - useful, nope, not at all!!!

I'm in this boat since I need to reschedule for few weeks, so Ohio plz tell me 'bout the "clear" part and how to do that
