Finger Prints seem to be lost

I got my finger prints on the 22nd of September.
Today I called the FBI customer service at 3046255590 to check on my FP status. She first did a search via my A#, couldn't find anything, then my First and Last Name and no results, then my First, Last and Middle name and still no results and then my SSN but still no results.
I read in some thread that FBI customer service told certain folks that they has no request from USCIS for them as well, but when they called USCIS, they were told that their FPs are back and IL will be sent out soon. I therefore, called USCIS customer service at 800..., spoke to a second level officer and he said that they have not received any finger print results from the FBI yet. I asked would it make sense for me to get another sets of prints taken and he said no, since it has only been couple of weeks and I need to give it some time. I reconfirmed that my application's status is waiting for FP results from FBI. I asked if I should call back in a month to see if the FP results are back and he said it is a good idea.
I know lot of people have it worse than me, so I am not really worried right now, and I do not mind waiting. I will try calling back in a month, see whats going on and then decide what to do next. I posted this just to see if others have experienced a similar situation, if not then I certainly will feel special :)
I wonder what the process of getting FP results back is. I know that prints are electronically transmitted to FBI from ASC, and I am guessing that the results are also electronically transferred back to USCIS. Do these results go to some sort of USCIS inbox/queue that requires an agent to go through and update individual cases with the results? Does anyone know how this works?

The FBI now can give you the result next day! As soon as they get the finger print! They might not have sent it yet!

Yeah. When i had called the FBI and was talking to the customer service, she said that normal turnaround time is 24 hrs. So, Just wait and follow up again. They may have got it and just not processed it yet.

hey, don't try to run in front of moving train. It's been a 8 days ago since they took your fingerprints.
You are not special, there are people in front of you!

Well, uncle joe, I do not think that you are too special either to boss people around like this.

It is a fact that for the vast majority of applicants, the FPs are returned by the FBI within a day. This is not the FBI name check process when indeed some applicants have to wait longer than others because of possible name matches. If the FPs had not been readable, the FBI would have told this to the applicant. They did not do it, so it is likely that USCIS dropped the ball somewhere.

It is probably annoying to the USCIS when anxious applicants bother it just because they seem to be a week or two off schedule. I certainly would be annoyed if I were a USCIS clerk who had to answer some applicant why his/her IL letter had not arrived say three weeks after the FP appointment. However, this is not a regular case. Such a delay with the FP processing (and a similar case for ps182) seem to be rather rare events, and if I were in the shoes of this applicant I would be worrying too.

And the last touch. If I recall correctly, uncle joe did his fair share of running in front of the train when he arranged for the FPs to be taken even *before* he sent N-400 petition :)

Peace.

Maybe the office where you went to get your FP done didn't send them. I wonder if you can get an info pass for this (why not?). If in a few days you call again and they tell you the same thing you should do something about it since the norm like others have mentioned is 24 hours from when they were sent to the FBI.

Good Luck!

Why are people getting so agitated? 8 days is NOT long. I was surprised someone (was it this thread) called the same/next day as fingerprinting. I am least concerned about USCIS helpline getting bogged down by such callers. I am more concerned that the posters here create a panic in other reader's minds ... "because someone is worried about FP not clearing in 2 days, mine must be really bad because it is 10 days". Come one ... have some faith in the government. In most (95%) cases, when CIS finds something wrong, the OP/filer also knows before-hand the deed they have done. Most of the people with clean files, you only need to worry about bad luck.

Sanjoseaug20 this is forum for concerned people and help, if this IS his concern and it is not to you, then don't look at it. We are here to help each other not to select what's important or not for you to read.

I acknowledge the last message but do not agree. I think counseling patience (maybe the words were wrong) is also a right advice in this case. And that is what I am advising to the OP, and agreeing with Uncle Joe in this case.

Be patient, give it another two weeks and then inquire with the FBI again. If they still don't have a record of your FP, then talk to an IO via phone or Infopass and ask if they can see in their system that you actually took the FP. It could be that the ASC found your FP were of poor quality and never sent them to FBI. If that's the case they will send you another FP request in the following weeks.

Im not running in front of the train, between fingerprints and petition are 5 months. I submitted my fingerprints early because I had chance to do so. Due my work, I have to be around my workplace within radius of 50 miles at all the time, except when im on vacation. Closest ASC is about 60-65 miles away. I can't just go overthere whenever I want. In August I had time I filed out and send my N-400 packet.

This guy I was talking about he just submited his fingerprints and 8 days later making complaints, blaming USCIS and FBI. Let them(USCIS, FBI etc) do their job. Wait at least a month, before blaming people.

In the last couple of years USCIS did a great job with backlogs. As far as I can see, they dramatically reduce processing time.

I certainly did not expect this thread to become such a big deal. If you read my post carefully, i said I am NOT worried and I DO NOT mind waiting.
The reason I posted this thread was because I was curious on how finger prints are transmitted back to USCIS and the applicant's file is updated. I am not sure that this is automatic. Anyone has any idea on this process?

SanJose, was the OP behaving agitatedly? Of course, not! All he did, was share his experience, and added that he would WAIT. In fact, he has legit reasons to be concerned - if you've followed the posts of people whose prints were not readable. In one instance (2Shy), the applicant discovered only at the time of interview. In a couple of instances, applicants were asked to secure police clearance certificates, given that their prints were not readable (after two attempts). In a couple other cases, the prints never made it to the FBI (or, so they were informed!)
Is it hard for you to recall that there have been a number of cases where cases got 'stuck' if some info./documentation fell thru the system cracks? In those instances, cases STALLED. So, it is in one's best interests to follow-up - for their own sake. It has nothing to do with any SHADY PAST, et al.

I have been following your posts. In the beginning, they appeared good, but lately, they've been sounding somewhat dismissive and condescending.

I wrote a long response, but I will only ack the comment for now...

For an example of stuck cases, please see my signature. Been there, done that.

Got email from FBI (liaison@leo.gov) that my FP were processed and sent back on 10/03/2009 (looks like they work on Saturdays!). I had my FP taken on 09/22/2009. I guess I was not one of those whose FP are sent to the FBI on the same/next day the FP is taken, but anyways, this is better then them not getting the FP at all
