filling questions about I-485

I am filling form I-485 and confused by the following two questions:

1. A#: I found a number writen as Axx xxx xxx in in the column of Beneficialry of my I-40 approved notice. Is this the A#? I checked this forum and some one said we do not have #A until we receive the 1-485 receipt. Does this true?

2. In the I-485 form, it ask me nonimmigrant visa number and chsulate where visa was issued. I came to USA as F-1 visa and changed to H-1B visa later on. I have a receipt number and I-94 of H-1B. As I never leave USA after I came here, I did not have actual H-1B visa on my passport. What should I answer to this question? The F-1 visa number is correct? or the H-1B receipt number? On my F-1 visa page, there are two numbers; one is called control number, one is a number with red color. Which one is the visa number?

Thanks advance. ty

A#

1. You can put that as your A#. In various cases this has changed to something else at a later stage. For some who have put None in this field have been allotted the same A# again and for some a different one. Basically that is the immigration visa number allotted to you. Either you can use it or leave it blank. Since you will be sending the copy I140 approval, your A# will be preserved or one allotted to you again.

2. You can put the H1 receipt number in your case. The red one is supposed to be the actual number according to experts in this forum. In your case you can quote either or both.
