Filed I-30 for biological son...processing times?

I just became naturalized...and sent in an I-30 for my son, who is 3 years old. I am wondering if anyone else has or is going thru this process. He does not have a visitor visa, and I have been told the process can take a little longer since it has to go thru more "processes"
If I am correct, we will have to make a trip to Cuidad Juarez and do all the paperwork over there. But I would like to know just what to expect, I have already received my Notice of action, but I don't really know what's next. any help or comments are appreciated!
 
Are you the mother or father? Are you married to the other parent? What is the status of the other parent?

Fill in some blanks and perhaps you will get some useful feedback.

It would have been so much easier on him if you had given birth inside the U.S. Why would an LPR in the U.S. choose to go abroad to give birth and then deal with the immigration issue? I have never understood that. Immigration authorities will wonder, too. They might suspect that you are trying to pass off a nephew as your own..... OR, if you gained your greencard through marriage while having a child with someone else, that would be a whole other can of worms....

Anyway, IF you filed the I-130 AFTER you naturalized, he should fly through the process. A 3 year old has a much easier background to check unless you named him something odd like "Fidel Castro, Jr." or "Osama Bin-Laden, Jr" or something else equally bizarre. Basically, all that is needed is a copy of his birth certificate (with English translation) and a copy of your natz cert.

IF you filed the I-130 BEFORE you naturalized, you would need to "upgrade" the petition.
 
I was visiting my father and had to go into labor, I was five hours away from the border and couldn't make it to the states, thats why he was born abroad, I was able to save up until now for my citizenship and for his paperwork until now. I gained my green card thru my step father YEARS ago, thanks for the info. I just hope the process doesnt take too long

Since you had a greencard for many years through a stepfather, did your mother naturalize before you turned 18? Have you investigated whether you had actually derived USC before you filed an N-400 and did the issue ever surface during the N-400 process? I am just curious if the USCIS Officer was thorough in your case. If you don't mind, in what Office did the process take place?

my mother is still a permanent resident, i was never legally adopted by my step dad either... and there was never an issue thru my naturalization process... All I really want to know is how long am I looking at as far as the whole process, I know that if its done in the states its much faster, but my son doesn't have a tourist visa, and it will have t be done in Mexico, and I have heard its a considerate amount of time longer, I am also curious is its wise to have my sons father renew his tourist visa, or will that be a problem?
