FBI background check

I am curious what exactly are the FBI is looking for. My wife applied for a mortgage loan and she had a paper to sign saying that she is USC. She signed it. We applied for GC but I am afraid the FBI will discover that she had declared herself USC before USCIS did. What happens if they do find out? Will she be deported?

Be Careful, That's A Terrible Mistake To Label Yourself As Us Citizen If You're Not, To Vote If You Not. If Uscis Foud Out Of Course She Could Faced Deportation, If She Is Not Citizen Yet. As Far Sa I Know, the Fbi Investigation Doesn't Go That Drive. In General, they Are Usually Monitoring Fraud (eligibility For The Benefit), Criminal Background, Terrorist Suspects.
I Wouldn't Worry.
Don't Do It Again.
Best Luck

Themen is correct. You can not represent yourself to be USC without actually being one. Even on the application for citizenship I believe it asks have you ever representated yourself to be a citizen while you were not. How are you going to answer that?

Most any benefits available to citizens is also available to legal residents so labeling yourself a citizen while not being one is not the right way to go.

The FBI check as themen mentioned does not go that route but if they were to ever find out, your citizenship can be stripped and deportation orders can be lodged against you.

Yeah, i don't think FBI will go as far as that. But why did she have to do that? You should be able to get a loan (assuming one has a good credit history) regardless the citizenship.

You can always say that it was an innocent mistake and she misunderstood the purpose of thhe signature.Call up the mortgage company and let them know, that it was a mistake. You should be ready to give up any benefits that u may have got becoz she signed as a citizen.

He is screwed....

Ashleyro,

It seems as if you didn't like the answers which were given in the post below which you started. :( Claiming US citizenship results in automatic denial of any immigration benefit and deportation, plus permanent:rolleyes: disbarment from ever setting foot in the United States.

Nothing is going to save your husband....

Making a "False Claim", claiming to be a U.S. citizen

Falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen is grounds for denial of any petition for naturalization (citizenship). There is no current waiver under the law for a knowingly made false claim. The problem arises whether the person claiming to be a U.S. citizen knew that s/he was making a false claim.

Your husband knew he was not a citizen when he applied for a mortgage, and knowingly made a false representation which, worst of all, he signed the loan papers for it. He was on a roll to fast track citizenship, which included lying to the financial institutions....

Clam down they chief!
USCIS is not interested in what box he checks for "US citizen," or "Permanent Resident," on a house mortgage, they are more interested, and check, if he has voted, or signed up to. All they have to do is call the finance company and say it was an error on the company's behalf. You make it sound like the guy will be cuffed, thrown on a plane, and deported for good. calm down. Making comments such as " Nothing Is Going To Save Your Husband" is jumping the gun....Take a xanox!

You take a chill pill! and stop harassing people on a thread that is more than 4 months old!

The OP's husband lied and signed something claiming He is an USC when he is not and Al was merely stating what the law says. Nothing else.

So stop digging through old threads for no reason and do not make the attempt of you knowing what USCIS is interested in or not. psst!

Let's Not Get Carried Away

I think that everybody should just relax and take it easy. Scare tactics aren't helpful. Amazing how the most critical people are the people most likely to misstate the facts."Nothing is going to save your husband...." Gimme a break! Quit immigrant bashing! I believe that the wife made the mistake not the husband. I think that maybe the wife was excited that she was about to become a USC or that she misunderstood the question. Perhaps she didn't notice the question or wasn't asked by the mortgager. Just shut your mouth about the whole thing. If it comes up, then worry about it. The FBI does the background check via the NCIC, they do not have the time to do a full background check.

"He was on a roll to fast track citizenship, which included lying to the financial institutions...." It is only lying if she knew it was false or intended to mislead the financial institution. What does "fast track citizenship" have to do with alleged false statements made to a bank? Fast track citizenship, as opposed to what, slow track citizenship? Does it follow that US citizens don't lie? Don't ask me, ask Alberto Gonzales.

"Al was merely stating what the law says. Nothing else...." No he was putting a pejorative spin on it, trying to give the OP a heart attack or at least an ulcer. America is the land of hope, not despair!

What is NCIC? What is involved in the back ground check? I have been told that background checks involve checks in US as well as the counrty of origination. Does it involve credit history, work history (employment), residence history, etc. in US as well as country of origination?

I agree! But people need NOT scare people out of doing something they want to do...Simply saying that "Nothing is going to save your husband" is innapproiate! People look for advice on here, not negative comments.
