My father who is 77 years old applied for a visit visa in 2004. The visa was approved pending security clearance. It has been three years and we are still being told that it is being processed.
I have tried contacting the senators and even sent e-mails to DHS without any response. I am still trying to understand how can a person who is 77 years old pose any danger to the US national security. I am a US citizen and if he wanted to do something bad, he could have used me to do it.
I would be very grateful if someone can guide me on what to do now. Please share your experience if you have been through this hell too.

Which consulate?
Better go and re-apply once again freshly.

See what is happening.

Unfortunately your father being 77 years old does not help him as far as security clearance is concerned. I assume his name got a "hit". Now if that "hit" was for a record that existed prior to everything going electronic, then manual intervention is needed since the record only exists on a paper file. That can take a lot of time since that paper file needs to be pulled and manually checked against your father's information. I hope that is not the case, but it is one possibility. I would also recommend a fresh application.
