Father got WT stamp on passport with B2 visa

My father got a B2 visa, but when he landed at San Francisco, he got a WT(Visa Waiver) stamp on his I94 card expiring in 3 instead of 6 months. My father came from China which is not in the US WT country list.

I am applying green card for them. I am wondering in this case, what is the impact.

It was improper for him to enter on B2 intending to file for GC. They should return home and file properly.

The stamp was not improper. The POE officer did not want to give your father a full 6 months. I am guessing the officer was not convinced with your father's answers/intentions. Please do not solidify those doubts by applying for your father's AOS.
