Faisal Shahzad

Thanks for posting the article. I think it clarifies some of the immigration timeline that was not clear from other articles. I believe that pursuing denaturalization would be a waste of taxpayers money and would accomplish nothing, as he is looking at a long time in jail regardless. On the other hand perhaps they have offered him a deal in exchange for information and they might require him to voluntarily give up citizenship so he will have to leave the country at the end of his sentence. Of course this is pure speculation on my side.

Even Mr. Krikorian did not blame the immigration system, noting that Mr. Shahzad did not enter the country illegally and seems to have had a genuine marriage. “Maybe there was nothing for them to find,” he said. “He may have been radicalized after he went through all this.”

Or maybe not. “Was it his plan all along? I don’t know,” said Christopher Bentley, a spokesman for United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Or maybe he became disillusioned with the American dream after he foreclosed and was sued by creditors, turning to extremism to flame his battered ego.

I know this could be taken the wrong way ... we have 'eco terrorism' which is not taken as negatively as 'islamic terrorism', and definitely we have 'abortion clinic terrorism' which is condoned by many leaders. I would not be surprised to hear of 'foreclosure originated terrorism' because of the past decade of greed. Even though economy seems to be improving and time heals wounds, but you never know how many people with foreclosed homes are carrying the hate in their heart. Time will tell...

I think another idea is to include a psychiatric test to find out if the person is capable of doing crazy think. May be it will help preventing this kind of stupidity.
for visa applicants , of course for naturalization, and for citizens may be once every two years or something.
