F1 Visa - Out of status for more than 8 months

Hello,

I am on a F1 Visa, but I have been out of status, but in country for last 2 semesters.

Now I am deciding to choose between applying for Reinstatement or going back to India and coming back with a new I20. Which is the safest option.

Neither would be safer, but seeking reinstatement would be less expensive.

The time limit to file reinstatement is 5 months from the date you got Out Of Status. You are out of luck with reinstatement procedure. That leaves you with only one option - Travel to home country and return with a new initial attendance I 20
