F1 to H1B and now laid-off

Dear Friends,

I was hired by current employer during my F1-OPT and they sponsored my h1b. Now, they are terminating my employment and I have been asked to leave the company in a few days time. I read in one of the posts that the company is supposed to pay for return plane tickets to the home country. Is this case true even if the visa case was change of status (i.e. F1 - H1B)?

Also, while joining the company they had asked me to bear 50% of the processing fee. Now that they are removing me, should I be entitled to a refund of that money?

This is an urgent issue. Kindly get back to me at the earliest.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, they are responsible for your return fare.

As for the fee, you agreed to pay 50% of the processing fee, which is illegal (for you and for them). Just be happy USCIS doesn't know about it.
