F1 reinstatement

i have a question. I have been on F1 status for about 10 years. I was on opt until sept 30th. My intention was to go back to school, unfortunately my i20 was not transferred during my grace period which was 19 days ago. My old school advices me to apply for reinstatement through the new school i am applying to. I worry as i have worked off campus before without permission, however i have always maintained a full course load and thus have been in status in terms of course load. My question is do you think they will deny my reinstatement coz of working without authorization? Should i leave the country and go maybe to Mexico and re-apply for a visa there with a new i20 or should i just apply for reinstatement?
any response will be greatly appreciated.
 
If you work off-campus you are automatically out of status since you have violated your visa terms. Whether they will find out is a different question, but you definitively have been out of status by law.
