F-1 and RFE relation

Hi Guys,

Is there any relationship between F-1 and RFE. Because I have seen so many of my friends who had F-1 during their stay in US got RFE, for 485 approval. Is it true ???

I have seen couple of posts where Candidates with F1 Visa were asked to prove there long legal stay

Actually, it seems like there is a quite a few people who got I485 RFEs and were at some point in time F1 students. Makes you wonder if there's any correlation. Usually, F1s would go to OPT, from there to H1B, from there to I485... pretty straight immigration history, or so I'd think...

I do not think there is any correlation between prior F-1 visa and AoS. I believe that RFE is issued when there is a doubt about the employment verification or change of employment.

We are talking here about RFEs that specifically request proof of continued legal status during a period of time when a person was in F1 status or afterwards when working on OPT. I am just trying to get a feel how many former F1s who are now in AOS are getting RFEs related to their previous F1 status/visa. I understand that the majority of AOS people came to the US as H1B, and never attended a college or university here, but the rest of us who were at one time F1 students may be singled out for some reason.

I know at least two dozen AoS applicants who are former F-1s (including myself) but none of us received an RFE requesting proof of continued legal status while on F-1 visa. I think most of us submitted copies of following documents:
I-20,
Student visa stamp from the passport,
Degree certificate,
OPT EAD card
These documents may have satisfied the USCIS requirements to demonstrate that legal status was maintained
