Hi,
I would like to know if one can get an extension on the B Visa by travelling to Canada and coming back to the US. Would the visa be re-stamped for 6 months??
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
Regards,
Rohit.

No. It does not work. You have to actually leave North America and the Caribbean.

Plus, if you try to re-enter the USA after staying 6 months, you will probably be denied and sent back home. You are supposed to "visit" the USA... not live here for 1 year.

If the extension grounds are justified, why not just submit an I-539? Why is the extension being sought?

Thanks for the replies. Does an extension petition raise eyebrows at immigration during a subsequent visit?? What are the generally accepted grounds for filing an extension petition?

It does more than raising eye brows... it raises "red flags"... and the "generally accepted grounds" are simply "REAL, UNEXPECTED, EMERGENCIES" that merit one to "live" in the USA for 1 year.
