Experts - Advise required

I had my interview two weeks back. I passed the test and while going through the application the officer asked me about my second son who is in India with my mother-in-law. I told the truth that he is in India. The officer asked me "how do you support him" and I said I support him by sending money for food and school. THe officer did not ask anything else. But finally she handed over me the N-14 and asked to submit proof of support for child.

The officer was very rude and did not even ask me do I have any proof. I had some proof of sending money to my mother in law and also some gift copies I send to my son. The next day I went to Baltimore and handed over the evidence at the infopass counter. So far I havent heard anything from them.

THis week I lost my current job. Now I have another contingent job offer (heard verbally from the new company) based upon becoming a citizen. I am thinking of going and talking to an officer at Baltimore, explain my situation and see if they can make a decision on my case soon. Do you guys think I have a chance. The new company will be willing to wait for only two weeks. Also, will it cause any problem because I lost my job as mentioned in the N-400 application.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your predicament. I honestly don't think you'll be able to solve your citizenship in two weeks, unless they do oath ceremonies in your district office itself. However, it is probably worth trying. USCIS keeps posting in their newsletters how they strive to accommodate special cases. Losing the job should have no bearing.

Your N-400 application will not be rejected because of your recent loss of employment. However USCIS will only approve your application once they are satisfied that you are sending regular child support to your kid in India. I hope your case is resolved soon.

Sorry, but I think its pretty unlikely they will do anything to expedite your case. The wheels of bureaucracy turn slowly at best, and its not unusual to have to wait 2-3 weeks for an oath ceremony once to receive the notification.

Presumably your potential new job specifically requires the candidate be a USC in order to obtain security clearances? Otherwise, I do believe it is illegal for a company to discriminate against LPR vs USC.

You've got a good point. I was also thinking that there was an implied security clearance requirement, or perhaps it is a federal job. I think in general it is illegal to discriminate agains LPR.
