This morning when I tried to check the status of my case by clicking on the receipt # I got this error message.

Status for this Receipt Number cannot be found at this time in this automated system. Please check your case receipt number to see if it is correct. If you have questions or concerns about your case status, please contact the service center where you submitted your application.

Any ideas? The receipt # is ofcourse correct coz I ve been continuously checking my status for last so many months :( .

A ferw months ago, someone had posted a convincing argument that when this message shows up online, it might mean that your case is actually being worked on/adjudicated at that time. For some reason, if your file is being worked on by an officer, it seems to get 'checked out' of the reporting system...

Unfortunately, that's not true as far as I know. The message usually means that the system is too busy. It can also occur if you have accessed the system a lot (but not enough to trigger the "your IP has been banned" message).

I got this message yesterday when I tried to look at my I-485 status after running a scan of about 190 cases. After trying this about 10x, the message switched over to the "your IP has been banned" message. When I got home (different IP) I was able to get the status.

I've seen the message about 10x since I started checking my case and it's never been correlated with any activity by the USCIS as far as I know apart from *possibly* happening more often just before they update the processing dates.

Unlike what you report (It can also occur if you have accessed the system a lot (but not enough to trigger the "your IP has been banned" message).
) , I've run into the situation where if you encounter the 'receipt number not found...' approx 10 times, then IP ban for 24 hrs gets triggered. I'm assuming they have that check in place precisely to prevent automated scripts like ours from bogging down their system.

Also, when I have got this message at any time for a particular case, I have randomly keyed in another case # from the same day and have seen a status, so 'the system is busy' does not sound right. You can also see this while running scripts (the next case shows up with the appropriate status).

Personally, I have seen a status update to a case < 1 day after getting the 'status not found..' message (I think it was EAD approval).

These are all semantics anyways. I think we are in agreement that the status does become available after a while. And the only thing that matters is if that status changes to "This case has been approved..." :D
