Entry Back into US with Green Card and Passport

I'm currently a green card holder and have dual citizenship with the United Kingdom and Ireland. The country of birth on my green card is the United Kingdom. I would like to travel to Northern Ireland next month. Does it matter which passport I travel on? Can I travel back to the US with my green card and Irish passport if my UK passport is now expired? I sent my UK passport for renewal but it will be a couple of months at least before I receive the new one at the rate they are processing passport renewals.
 
Did you disclose both your citizenships in the GC application? If so, they'll be able to pull it up. And, your GC is what's important to enter the US. The passport is technically not required.
 
No, the GC application was only on my UK passport. Will this cause any issues now if I use my Irish passport to enter the US along with the green card?
 
It doesn't say on the application to list ALL your nationalities, so though I'm not 100% certain, I think you won't have an issue if you explain the situation to the border guard (ONLY IF ASKED). Take a copy of your expired British passport with you. Still, the only thing you actually need is your GC. They might not even swipe your passport, but when nationality pops up on the screen, they might ask. Your place of birth in your Irish passport is the county in Northern Ireland, I suppose?
 
I don't think you will face any difficulty while entering the US only with a Green Card. As mentioned in the above posts, GC is the most important ticket to reenter the US.Ensure to take copies of all your paperwork of your UK passport renewal and your expired passport. It will help if at all the issue of your nationality and your passport is raised at the port of entry.
 
My situation is very similar, but I have always used the passport with the immigrant visa that I used when I first entered the US as a GC holder.

i got GC wt my wife n daughta in march 2011 thru d DV Program.I in april after 6 weeks of my 1st stay in US leavin both of them bhind.I plan to come stay in US finaly by septemba 2011 wch wil after stayin 5 months in Nigeria(home country).I have jst my Passport,GC & SSN.Hope i wont have any issue at POE (Chicago)?I already have a US mailing Addres,US Bank Acount and my family are in US.Pls help
