Entering US with valid RP, but after more than 2 years' abcense

Mr. questioner may have another approach to solve this problem. I'm not familiar with all possibilites ... but ...

Is there a possibility to give up one's legal permanent residence and obtain one in the future again when needed? If yes, could that second immigration procedure be done easier than the first time?

However, there are some instances in this forum of people successfully returning after the 2 years with an unexpired reentry permit, and none (that I know of) of people being being refused entry or sent to an immigration judge while having an unexpired RP just because it's been more than 2 years.
Possible. Still could be accounted to mistakes, especially if statistics consists of several unique cases. I would say this document has it's final say, but the interpretation of what may really means is up to inspector, and you'd better not count on what your inspector would think. May in uncertain meaning is not appropriate for legal document.

On the other hand, a court would probably think of must meaning (a strong one), because of legal background of a judge, while an inspector could decide a weak meaning of may, because in ordinary non-legal language may does not sound as must.

If some one obtained Rentry based on their daughters study (above) 18 yrs age, do they will be linient to only Daughter or to all family for ABOVE two YR rentry with Valid rentry permit
Daughter's parents are not included. Daughter's spouse and children are, in case they have their own reentry permit, stay with her and do not work (in case of spouse)

As long as you have the basis and the priority date becomes current.

It won't be easier than the first time (other than the experience you gained from doing it before), unless they've changed the process to make it easier for everybody in general. No special priority or privilege is given for the green card process based on you having that status before.

Because I want to live in the US, but have to stay abroad until this autunm due to pesonal circumstances.

I was asking because I just returned from a 14-month stay abroad (which I had done because of personal reasons), and at some point I said to myself scr*w it, it's not worth it, I'm going back to the US.
That included quitting my job

Can I ..
- return to the us after 1 year and 8 months absence for a few days (RP still valid), then leave again,
- then return just before the RP expires (which will be 4 months after the previous visit), then spend about a week in the US,
- leave the US for up to a couple of weeks 2 or 3 times buying round trip tickets US-Abroad-US to finish my business abroad? Would that be a problem given that the RP will have expired by then?

If you return before the reentry permit expires, I don't see why a few short trips of 2-3 weeks abroad would be a problem after the reentry permit expires.

Just trying to make sure. I hope there won't be any problems.

Is a reentry permit good to re-enter more than once over the course of 2 years? For example, if I come to the us 1 year and 8 months after my last visit, and then come again in a few months, but before RP expires, would it be a problem?

If i go in an out of the US 2-3 times before settling there, how much difference does it make if my round trip tickets start and finish in the US rather than abroad? One option i have for my next visit is to buy a one way tickets to the US and then start buying round trip tickets from the US to go abroad from that point on. The second option - cheaper and more convenient one - is to keep buying round trip tickets starting abroad and get a one way ticket when I finally return to settle? Does it make any difference to border patrol officers?

A round trip ticket that ends outside the US will be a problem if they hassle you about your long trips abroad. However, if this is your first reentry permit and you return before the permit expires, they'll probably just look at the permit and let you in without bothering to ask you about the ticket.

I'm planning to enter before the RP expires and spend about a week in the US, but then I need to go abroad a couple of times for up to a month in total due to personal circumstances. Because I don't know the exact dates of my trips the cheapest way would be to buy round trip starting and ending outside the US. However, if doing so will put my GC at greater risk I'm ready to pay more and buy US-Abroad-US tickets. Not sure what to do.

I am hoping to be able to do similar. I was recently admitted on an immigrant visa, but was not able to stay and I won’t be able to move to the US for at least another 18 months, although I could be coming for 2-3 days every few months. I plan to apply for reentry permit. Would you mind sharing what reason you stated when applying for yours, and whether you submitted any documents to support that reason at time of applying?

Thanks and good luck!
