Hey folks

I don't see any problem if Shefe did'nt have any problem with his government. People can flee because different reasons (race, political, religion, etc). In some cases the government could'nt be envolved in the threats. Why if his Asylum granted does'nt have conexion with the goverment threats, he cannot get a job with them?
Travelco

Are you out of your mind? Clearly you have no founded fear from your COP. I can barely even walk pass my COP embassy, much less step foot/work in it.

well actually

well, Travelco is right. It should depend on what the basis of your asylum claim was. If it was not fear from the government but some other factor you should be able to work for them. why not?

Don't jump into conclusions, guys. maybe he/she feared persecution from some group/clan in his country instead of the government directly. if that's the case, of course he can work for his COP's embassy.

New York is part of the United States terrotory. If you use your asylum based SSN and your driver's license, I don't see why it would be a problem. As an asylee you are authorized to work any entity in the United States. Having said there could be exceptions: Like working in an official capacity or repressenting your country; that is something else, but if you are working the embassy say as a janitor and you are earing regular wages, you don't have to fear your embassy in the USA. They can't do anything to you....

I tell you guys it is complicated so i would not even apply for it..but it makes sense to work for any job in USA since i have a SSN and Driver license..I will just look for another job..

You can work for cash at your embassy plus you will get green tax exempt card (it means you wont pay any taxes in US)

Against nothing

This is a free country and you are free to do whatever you want. Is up to you embassy to allow you to work with them having asylum from your country.

So I'll say is up to them, not to you.

Hi ,
I have a few questions ,
What happends if they choose not to pay your salary for the last 2 weeks or month ?
Can you actually take them to court , or file a complaint with Department of Labor ?
What happends if you get sick , we all know medical bills in this country can be astronomical ... will they provide you with medical insurance ?
Will you be able to apply for unempleyment after working with them for a longer period of time ?

my only guess and forgive me for being a retard is that any consulate or embassy are not like any other regular buisness in America , but you get paid directly by the government you working for .. in your case your Country of Prosecution

Also even if you are a US citizen if you hold a govermental possition in a diff government they can strip you of US Citizenship , one thing comes in mind this iranian dude had a green card and he was some type of minister in iran ( not really sure about the country) lets hoe this not apply to you and you hold a diplomatic job ;-) i am sure janitor , translator , etc is fine .. is just few things you have to keep in mind
Also keep in mind even as US Citizen you have to declare all your incomes , even the ones *** oversees*** in your case your consulate , so no you not tax free

i wish you good luck with your new job and have fun

I personally believe that no one will ever notice were your pay check came from. If you have any doubts about jeopardising your GC or citizenship interview. Who on earth gonna know? If you are PR you can work where ever you want and pay taxes.

might be true for other employers. But working for a foreign government will get you noticed by the U.S. government.
