Embassy Support or Sponsorship for DV Lottery Winner

My spouse has won DV lottery, we are curious if the US Embassy will sponsor anything like travel expenses up to the US or any other financial support for the lottery winner like waive off the fees they charge for visa processing?

I heard a family travel expenses were sponsored by the embassy back in 2002. Or may be its the opposite now due to the financial crisis ;)

Any feedback much appreciated.

Thank you.

Nope, they don't do that. You have to show that you can financially sponsor yourself and ur family.

Forget about it! I wrote a thread about "things to know before you enter into the DV lotery"...if you read it, you might get to know some things you have to pay for and unless you buy everything new overhere, moving our furniture over here costed like $ 20K.

One other thing...if you can't proof you already have a job, you might be asked for proof of sponsorship or enough savings...If you can't pay for the trip over here how do you imagine your self going to pay for a living, etc...The US isn'tgoing to bail any one out...you have to get your life tarted over here and be among many of unemployed people all looking for a job...

Sorry I don't want to be negative but this is reality. Unemployment is above 10% in Fl. where I live...so you better search for the States with the lowest unemployment and low housing prices....

Good Luck!:), many people before you have immigrated and most of them succeeded, so you can do it too:)

I think no one has dared to ask the Immigration Officer what are they sponsoring in the lottery we have won, after all its a lottery and lottery means money not just start paying and spending money without any guarantees you will find a job or not. Has any one asked such questions during a DV interview?

The family I mentioned above were offered travel tickets up to US back in 2002 by the Embassy, which they had requested in their interview.

It is a lottery because you win a green card. They won't give you any money or support, you have to pay them for the green card and prove you can support yourself and your family. If you can't too bad, there are another 50.000 people who can't wait to show they can.

Were you present at that interview...I guess not ...people like to tell so many stories, you ALMOST start to believe them....

The USCIS website clearly is stating the cost and no where it is saying they will pay for anything...if you won't be able or just doesn't wan to pay the fees, nobody will care...just a lot of other people will probably like it, since their chances went up do to you backing out...it isn't a charity event...you don't even know if you get a GC...it is called "a chance to apply for a GC"!

If you want to decrease your chances of getting your immigrant Visa, you can go ahead and ask the immigration officer during your interview. Its tough enough getting a sponsor, unless you will b going to work for the government they might consider paying your airfare. Otherwise its all wishful thinking.
