Effective date of status change from L1/L2 to H1/H4

Hi,

My husband is on L1 visa (valid until May 2008) with company A. Meanwhile, company B has filed for his H1 which is expected to be approved by Oct 2006. They have also filed for my status change from L2 to H4.

Currently, I am on L2 with a valid EAD. I have started working for a local company on a contract basis. We came to know that H4 visa holders cannot work in USA.The local company that I work for, needs 2 weeks notice before I could resign the job.

When do I actually lose my L2 status and go on H4?
Will it be on the day my husband's H1 gets approved (or) the day he starts working for company B on H1?.

He is planning to continue with company A on L1 for few months even after Oct 2006. Is this fine?

You lose your L2 status when H1 start date comes.
He can not keep working for L1 company after his H1 start date. It is status violation.

Say my husband gets his H1B approval on Sep 15, can I still work until Sep 30 as he can start working on H1B only from Oct 1 2006?

if his start date(as well as your H4's start date) is Oct 1, you can work til Sep 30.

Your L2 will switched to H4 the day your h4 is approved. But you'r husband's Hi will start from Oct 1st.

Your L2 will switched to H4 the day your h4 is approved. But you'r husband's Hi will start from Oct 1st.
This is what happened in my case.

Approval date does nothing with status change. Start date of new status is printed on new I-94. Primary H1 gets valid on Oct 1, til then her husband remains L1, therefore she remains L2.

If approval is after start date being asked in petition, the same as your case may happen.
