Can OCI kids compete in general category for admission in IIT/IIMs/Medical Colleges? The state and central Engineering/MBA/Medical colleges only admit 'Indian Citizens' only.

Or after 5 years of OCI can apply for Indian citizenship and enter college via General category and once they are over 18 claim back US citizenship via birth proof ??

In order to get back Indian citizenship, you need to surrender US citizenship. Giving up US citizenship is not possible until you are 18 (some rare cases 14). Once you renounce, there is no way you can get back US citizenship (except the GC path).

I was of the assumption that a a US-Born citizen can reclaim citizenship any time through their evidence of place of birth and not go through regular GC process all over again!!!
For adults I understand there are tax implications /process in order to loose US citizenship didnt know that there are complications for citizenship change for kids below 18 years !!!

Not if one renounces US citizenship. It is a permanent act.
