My first medical was perfectly ok. However when I for RFE for medicals, the company lawyer told me about validity of medical for 12months and also I called the 800number and those people told me the same. thats why I wrote about medical validity, anyways USCIS is wierd no doubt.
good luck to all

How about that. This is either a new policy, or just, as you said ... INS ... I mean BCIS ... I mean HomeLandSecurity ... I mean USCIS is weird ;)

Thanks for the info Shobhana !

Cheers,

Cheers,
Almost a year back I read in Murthy.com that in (so called)normal circumstances Medical is valid for a year however, due to extraordinary backlog, INS or BCIS (that time) has extended to two years. But that doesn't explain how slipj and lot others got their I-485 approved even after 2 year period.
That's Weird!
Anyways, if two year period is over get alert(restart the healthy habits!!) for fresh medicals.
Cheers!

Congratulations Slipj.
Your card will be home before you get there :)
Why didn't you use an info pass? Also, what if you got there earlier, llike 7 am. Would that make a big differnce? If I get called up, I will be there at 5am with a good book to read and my artist chair.

I had my passport stamped today at the JFK Federal Building in Boston. I decided not to kill myself getting there at 7am when they opened, so I arrived at 8:20am. There wasn't much of a line for security or for getting a number, so I cruised through that. But then it took 5 hours before my number was called! Things were slow at first, then they speeded up until about 11:30am, when it seemed like most of the agents went off for lunch. At 12:30pm, it started to pick up again, and I was out by 1:15pm.

Note: even though my GC approval letter said that ADIT style photos were required, the USCIS is now accepting ONLY passport style pictures.
Also, although it wasn't on the approval letter, be sure to take along your current EAD card and all unused and expired Advance Paroles, as they'll want those. Of course, you also need your passport and current I-94.

Now I just have to wait 6-8 months for the green (pink!) card. :)

I only realized that Boston was using INFOPASS the day before I planned to go for the stamp. I was away on vacation when I was approved, arrived back on Saturday, and went the next Monday (20th) to get the stamp. I checked INFOPASS on Sunday night and the earliest appointment was on the 27th.

While I was waiting, I did do some "research" into whether INFOPASS gets you there any quicker, and right now, all it seems to do is get you to the head of the line for your particular appointment time. Since there wasn't much of a line when I got there, it wouldn't have made much difference.
One guy that got in front of my with his appointment for 8:30am only got done just before me. So right now, I don't think it's worth making using INFOPASS. However... soon they won't be allowing walk-ins in Boston, so be sure to check before you go! Also, if you use INFOPASS, make sure you're there BEFORE your appointment (they say to be there 15 minutes before the appt time). If you're late, you go to the back of the line!

And yes, take plenty of reading material! If you don't want to stay in the waiting room, there's a central outdoor area where you can sit (and smoke if you want), or you can sit in the cafeteria, which is a little nicer than the main waiting room.

Good luck!

I think it might be your lucky day samamit. They might be close to approve you I140 and for this reason you get called for FP2. Are you sure the I-140 is NOT approved ? In my case I knew it was, because my employer let me know and gave me a copy of the notice. The online status was never updated.

Good luck. Guys, if anyone lives in Vermont, could you please visit the USCIS Center and wake the freak up the officer "working" on my case ?

Cheers !

Guys/Gals, it was about time, FP2 for me !!!!!

* Added my FP2, just got the notice on the mail, yahoooooooooo !!!!

Thanks Slipj and congratulations again. May be we should get a drink together when all this is over for me.
Keep wishing me and the others good luck until this is over.

Thank you !
I am in a small town in Delaware, if you are around I'll take the drink idea of going for a drink sometime :)

BTW. I'll probably go tomorrow morning, does anyone have any experience on early FPs in Dover, DE ?

I keep bugging the company lawyers weekly and they say they haven't heard anything about the I-140. Someone else in the company was in a similar situation 3 months back and he got the I-485 approval in August. The lawyers called USCIS and they said I-140 was approved in June but apparently lawyers received no approval notice and it wasn't updated online until after the enquiry. I registered with the USCIS for case status updates and have never seen my LUDs change (they have always been 12/23/2002) thru the 1st and 2nd FP, 2 sets of EADs and APs. Hoping my I-140 is already approved and I just don't know :)

Early FingerPrint Question

Hi everyone,

I have a few hours to make a decision, and I can't seem to contact my attorney. Any help is super appreciated !

I am scheduled for FP2 two weeks from now (me and my wife). For several reason it would be great to do it either tomorrow Friday or next day.

We are supposed to go to Dover Field Office:
http://uscis.gov/graphics/fieldoffices/dover/aboutus.htm
Either in two weeks, or any Wednesday after that. I wonder if they only work on wednesdays ?

Also, in the page I mentioned above, there is a link for fingerprints, that in turn leads to an ACS (Application Support Center), where apparently you can get your FP's done. They even work on Saturdays !
http://uscis.gov/graphics/fieldoffices/ascs/asc2.htm#delaware

Our plan is to go early (Friday Morning) to the Field Office, and try there. If they turn us down, then give it a shot on the ACS. It is also in Dover. Does it sound like a reasonable plan ?

Very many thanks !

Do you trust them ? I heard that many companies keep it quiet, because they want to keep you under their wing. They know that you know that if your I-140 is approved, you don't depend so much on them.

Hoping my I-140 is already approved and I just don't know :)

FWIW, and for all I know (which isn't much but hey!), quite frankly this seems to be the most likely scenario.

Would that be  or what ?

I've had no reason not to trust them yet, though that doesn't mean what you say might not be true. I'm lucky in that I work for one of the largest companies ($15 billion earnings per year) in the world with over 60,000 employees, and have always been treated fairly (and not like someone who has no other choice). At this time, I'm leaning more towards a screwup at Vermont rather than one at work. We all know how likely that is ;)

Now, if the USCIS would get its act together and just make AC21 portability applicable when 140 has been pending 180 days, it would sure make life difficult for those who prey on us immigrants. That's what Congress intended when it passed the law and not approving a 140 application for 2 years is just a way of circumventing it! (IMHO)

Either in two weeks, or any Wednesday after that. I wonder if they only work on wednesdays ?

Also, in the page I mentioned above, there is a link for fingerprints, that in turn leads to an ACS (Application Support Center), where apparently you can get your FP's done. They even work on Saturdays !

Our plan is to go early (Friday Morning) to the Field Office, and try there. If they turn us down, then give it a shot on the ACS. It is also in Dover. Does it sound like a reasonable plan ?

Very many thanks !

Sorry, didn't see the post so don't know if this will be in time. I went early for my 2nd FP to the Field office in Buffalo (I live in Rochester which has an ACS). The ACS could not take the fingerprints since their machine is not hooked up to the FBI office. They only do the final set of fingerprints when you go for your GC stamp. For the FBI background check, we had to go to Buffalo. Since we were there without appt (and not on a wednesday), we had to wait 3 hours while those with appts. were processed. Well worth the wait though, knowing I got them done 6 weeks in advance of my appt. I'd say to just go to the field office where your appt. is. They may not take you right away but if you wait long enough, you'll get your turn. The ACS will probably be a bust unless they are hooked into the FBI computers.

Interestingly, the FP person at Buffalo shed light on why we have to go for FP again. She claimed that immigration law says the USCIS cannot keep FP scans for applicants till they are actually approved (go figure). So the machines at the Field Offices just send the scans to the FBI and then delete them. The background check has a validity of 15 months from the time the FBI issues its report. If the case isn't settled by that time, you have to go for another scan. The USCIS can keep a permanent record of your FPs when you go the ACS for GC stamp on your passport so you don't need to keep going for FP scans for continuing applications (replacement, extension, etc.)

Hey "Samamit". Saw that you lived in Rochester, NY just like myself. I am getting ready to put in my paperwork (I-140) under EB-1 OR. Will file I-485 after I get the receipt.
Can you recommend a doctor for the medicals in Roc?
You can contact me at my email: kawaltandon@yahoo.com.
Thanks!

Hi mendieta,
Sorry. Read this post just now. So, this info might not be much help.

I have noticed at the Philadelphia field office (where the "field office" is 10 blocks or so away from the application support center) people being asked to go to the ACS for fingerprinting (and people for Passport Stamping and greencard renewal being asked to go from the ACS to the field office).

My fingerprint notices just asked us to go to the Philadelphia office......if I were you (and you didn't try already today), I would bet on the ACS Saturday......

Well, the thing is, AC21 is not clear about this right ? For instance, my lawyer says (and I agree) that the only clear thing with AC21 is that you can use it 180 days after I485 filing. No mention to I140 status. Now that you can file 485 any time, this is a good thing. The controversial part is, what happens if you get a I-140 RFE after you used AC21, before approval ? I have the feeling you should be ok, but at the very least it is a messy situation.

It would be nice if what you are say would be implemented. All these messy situations would be avoided from the start.

Hey kst1. There are 2 or 3 docs in Rochester on the "USCIS approved" list. You have to go to one of them for the final form. I went to Dr. Stephen Meloni because he had the earliest availability. I also had to go to my PCP first to get all the labs and vaccinations done and then take proof of those to Dr. Meloni's office. The medical insurance even picked up the tab for the labs and vaccines and I only had to pay $100 to Dr. Meloni for the physical and the certification. Check with your lawyer or the USCIS website for the updated list of "approved" docs before you call anyone.

Good Luck
