H1B costs cannot be recovered, legally, as far as I know. Green card yes - because USCIS will then consider them as abusing the system; so we have to be employed for one year to show good cause. Usually it is only after you rceive that they worry about you leaving. If you leave before approval they may elect (though most cases they wouldnt worry) to revoke the application. They cannot ask you to pay.

it's just been abt two months since i joined my new job, and I heard today that the state funding might be cut anytime, meaning, i may not have work if it happens. Although I do not expect them to lay me off immediately, one never knows. Under the circumstances, I am thinking whether it is wise to sound-off the visa officer regarding the attorney screw up of my EB1 cover letter. Any thoughts?
