EAD vs. Green Card

Hi everyone,
I appologize if this question has already been asked but I could not find it in any searches.
I have my Green card interview on Jan 21st. I have been working since I got my employment authorization card in September 2008.
The place I am working for is unfortunatley going out of business in two weeks and I am forced to find a new job. My questions are:

at the end interview do they take away my EAD card? If so how do I get a job without the card? as I will be applying for jobs right around the interview.

is it difficult to get a job with just the EAD and no GC? I have not really tried. Ever since I got my EAD I have just been working for a friend's company.

Thanks so anyone who can help :)

It very much depends on the type of work, whether it is a long term opportunity, the company and its hiring policies, etc. But generally there isn't much of a difference.

Unless there is a statutory requirement preventing them from hiring someone who is not a citizen or Permanent Resident, it is illegal for a company to refuse to hire based on one having an EAD.

At my wife's interview they took away her EAD and gave her an approval letter for a green card. My wife was also in the process of looking for a new job so I told the interviewer about it and she said she can wait for the GC to come because it should come fast. It took about 2 weeks to get.
