EAD replacement - misspelled name

Hi All,

My wife's EAD renewed card came with her last name misspelled. We called VSC, they told us to send the card back with new application marked as "EAD replacement", and no fees. We did exactly that, a month passed with no sign of activity from VSC - no card, no even receipt. I know they received the package, it was send as Certified mail with tracking number. My wife called VSC recently, they as usual did not gave any meaningful info: "Such cases are processed randomly, with no predicted time, you should just wait and wait and wait..."
So, does anybody have an experience with replacing the crippled EAD? How long did it take, what kind of communication with the USCIS was encountered?

Thanks!

You can insist on a case referral when you call them. Citing unable to start work without EAD hardship, you can also try and get an interim EAD at the local Office.

I did the same thing to correct wrong signature on EAD. I sent the original card back to CSC on JULY' 03 and received the new card on DECEMBER' 03. It took 6 months to correct their mistake.

Hi,

I got my card spelt wrongly. I had to wait for 12 weeks to get it back corrected.

Cheers!

---------How you can call VSC??????

----- you can also try with local USCIS
Thanks!

Neel & Krish:

Did you guys receive any intermediate communication from USCIS in a timeframe between sending your cards and getting them back? Receipts or anything like that?

ginnu:

My mistake - of course we did not call VSC directly, we called that one-for-all USCIS call center.

Thanks, everybody!

Karaya,

There was no communication and I was bit worried during that 6 months as my HI was expiring on Jan'04. My lawyer advised me to NOT to send any ORIGINAL documents bacl to Service Center. But I took the risk and lost some hair becuase of tension.

Karaya,

Getting the EAD card replaced is a pain in the $%^& with totally unexpected timeline/outcome. However, as per CIS and my lawyer, you can continue to work while CIS is correcting the mistake, if it was a mistake on their part.

My EAD card was renewed last december, and had wrong renewed dates (again had the same dates as the previous card). I discussed with my lawyer, CIS 800 number, and even personally with local CIS office - got the same story everywhere:
1. Send the card back, and it would be fixed at some point of time
2. As it is a clear cut CIS mistake, they will not hold it against me, and I can continue to work meanwhile
3. There can be no follow-up to the request and local CIS will not issue an interim EAD as your case has already been approved

I sent my card back in Jan 2004 and am still waiting for the corrected card. Have sent 2 reminders since (certified mail). Have been carefully keeping copies of all mails and certified mail receipts. The 800 number refuses to open a case referral for this issue.

In short, once you have sent the card back, you can only wait and hope that CIS won't come after you for working without the physical card, because it was their mistake.

goodluck and keep us posted!

Thanks everybody!
At least it's comforting to know that nothing extraordinary is going on, and it's just as usual with USCIS: "situation normal - all f@#%ed up!..."

Mis-spelled EAD

Hi:
I just want to add that, although some may not agree, that just
asking for an EAD renewal because of a misspelling is over-reaction,
and that a mis-spelled EAD, as long as it is issued by INS, should not
be a problem whatsoever. After all, EAD is not an ID document, e.g.,
driver's licence or passport. My wife's name has been mis-spelled
several times by INS, I did not even bother to ask them to correct it,
and it has been fine.

Hi All,

I finally received my corrected EAD Card from USCIS. In Dec last year, they had approved my EAD renewal, but printed the same dates as the expiring card. I send the card back for correction in Jan and received the corrected card this week.

goodluck to others in similar situation.

i just my EAD with A5 code ( asylum granted), since i have 3 name, let just say my name is George Washington Bush, on the front they put the name is "G. Washington B.. i didnt notice it on the back they put the name in bottom line with misspeled name, cause it mixed with number, so in the back the name is "GeorgeWashingtonBudh". my question is do i need to fix it? since 8 month again im goin to apply Green card , and the EAD wont be needed anymore
ohh btw i havent aply for SSN, do it will become trouble when im goin to apply for SSN? , since my birth name certificate isnt the same with my EAD name although its only one word is wrong?
