I've been told that as long as my I-485 is pending I don't need EAD.
The only reason that I need EAD is for temporary working purpose.
Later on, I found some information from our online friend who had an interview experience that he's been asked to see EAD card.
So, I change my mind - better get EAD card

Dome9th you are right. EAD card is not necessary unless you plan to work. During the stamping process you will be asked to turn in your current EAD card, if you don't have one...not a problem.

It is good if u always have a valid EAD, even u don't use it.
Many ppl do need to show some kind of proof of status different places.

An EAD isn't valid proof of any status.
You do not need EAD if your H1 6 years have not run out. But if they have then it is illegal to work without it.
Secondly, it is suicidal to tell officer at the time of stamping (when 485 approves) that you do not have job. It is a valid ground to deny your GC. I know a case, where a guy was laid off 2 days before his approval. He went for stamping and officer casually asked about the job. When he informed about the lay off, he was denied GC and had to sell house, car and leave within 10 days.

dont u need to have some kinda work permit?...H1 or EAD? 485 can be pending for as many years as it wants to..dont u still need a valid work permit? How were u working without even applying for an EAD? Did you have a valid H1 then?
I heard that some companies let the employees continue working as long as they have their EAD application pending even though the previous one had expired.
BTW, realcanadian..EAD is a valid work permit document..
