My current H1 extension expires in 2010. If i file for EAD with my old company ( I140 approved) and dont file for H1 with the old company what happens if this 485 gets rejected for some reason. Is it possible for me to go back on H1 ?
Would this mean that I stay out of the country for a year and then file a new H1B ?

-------------- your EAD AP becomes invalid as both are based on pending I-485 and you will not be having H1 status to stay or work in US.

---------------NO, to remain on H1 your employer need to file H1 extension before your I-94 gets expired

-yes, all depends on the reasons why I-485 is rejected
