E-filing ?

I completed the paper work to file for EAD renewal today.

My Lawyer didn't mention anything about e-filling.

I have just completed I-765 for my wife.
I have a couple of items to mention,
but no time to write the detail right now.
I will follow it later.

1) For payment, you need to put a banking account infromation such account number and routing number.
2) The case nummber was WAC0380000XXX.
WAC-03 is as usual, but 800-00XXX is different from paper-based.
I confirmed it at the BCIS Case Status Online.

Do you have to go to Local INS office to complete the application process. How do you submit the photos and the signature cards ??? do they send a paper confirmation when you apply thru Web?

with efiling you don't need the photos and signature card..so don't worry about it..

i am not a lawyer so check with your lawyer and do not depend on above..it may be wrong.

any one else doing e-filing ?
Which approach is better - if someone here has some opinions about it , please post.

In the instructions it says that once you get the online confirmation #, one has to schedule an appointment with a local service center to get the photographs done etc...does this apply for I-485 based EADs also ?

Hi, vtg,

Yes, I did for my wife.

I have no idea right now.

Yes, I called to NCSC to make an appointment.
She will go to the ASC next week.

I have not received a notice yet,
and I have not mailed supported documents yet.
$120 had been already paid from my bank account.

E-filing is not very benfitial ....

e-Filing vs. Paper Filing of EAD Application

Currently, certain eligible aliens can apply for Employment Authorization Document (I-765) in one of two ways: Online filing or paper filing by mail.

People are wondering whether online filing will give the benefit of prompt adjudication of the applications.
It appears, however, that the BCIS e-filing is drastically different from DOL online filing of Labor Condition Application for H-1B or PERM labor certification application. Online filing of LCA instantly gives the decision of the application for the H-1B filers. At least under the proposed PERM labor certification rule, the eligible PERM application is promised to be decided in less than 21 days, meaning "expeditious" decision. The e-filing of EAD application is different. According to the BCIS information sources, there is practically no difference between the e-filing and the paper-filing of I-765 when it comes to the processing of the EAD application. The sources indicate that the application will be adjudicated in the order of receipt. Assuming that the EAD application is filed by overnight delivery services, when it comes to the processing time of one's application, one may make only one-day difference from the online filing. Considering the fact that the online filing requires additional trip to ASC for photographing and fingerprinting plus submission of required documentation by mail post online filing, one wonders how much incentive the online filing of I-765 application will give the applicants. It appears that for the online filing system to be effective, the BCIS should give some level of additional benefit over the paper filing.

Advantages of e-filing for EAD...

1. One doesn't need to spend that $20 or so for courier etc. and absolutely sure that RD, ND will have same day vs. if some one mails paper application some times it may take a month (in extreme situations if there are any mail delays in mail room) for receipts to be generated. (No need to worry about FedEx/USPS/stamps/address/BoxNumber etc.)
2. Photoes. one need not spend that 10-20 bucks for taking pictures and again there is a posibility that BCIS may reject (improper phose/background etc.) and ask for new photographs through RFE if paper filed.
3. Like buying any thing else on internet, "One can file for EAD at any time and any where there is an internet connection + a printer".

One negetive thing is one need to make a trip to ASC and in my openion it is not that bad any why compared to a trip to local BCIS office, where service is very professional and quick and almost no waiting time. At least it is like that here in San Jose though!

Probably some immigration attorneys may not like it because one cannot charge those big bucks for this kind of service any more as one can do it on their own (as it is further simplified)

PCee and Kashmir,
thanks for your wonderful insights into this process.

PCee , I was also thinking that you will get the receipt # on the same day and no worries about lost receipt notice or Fedex etc... It says that they will also mail a receipt notice similar to the one we will get online after submitting the application. Now my concern/question is - will one be able to get iEAD based on the online receipt stuff or only on the paper receipt which we will get eventually from BCIS.

Now, if its the latter, then again if falls into the same category - waiting for receipts, lost receipt etc...

thanks again.

When e-filing completed,
you can download 3 pages of PDF file,
two are Confirmation Receipt(s) and one is Form I-765 Applicant Copy.
I believe you can use that Confirmation Receipt to get iEAD.

I tried to use E-file EAD for my wife, but I got struck with questions regarding "current immigration status" and "manner of last entry". I was looking for a status similar to "Pending AOS". I called NSC and they could not answer my question and transferred to IIO. The IIO too could not answer and suggested to skip the question or choose H1B(my visa expired long ago). She also said E-filing is new to them so it's better for me to paper file in this situation.

So, I did paper filing for my wife.

In other words IIO's are computer illiterate too, in addition to being lazy.
