Dv program...can it harm u?

I'd like to open applications to the lottery for my family. can participating the lottery in any way harm ur chances of getting a tourist visa or maintaing an existing one?after all it does show some intention of immigrating
 
It can with certain visa's....only when you win and apply for the visa if you aren't eligible. Like for example a person a J visa has to have finished the requirement or will be denied...there are other type of visa's that might have the same issues.
 
Hard to say for sure. I have to say I agree with the other post. It sounds logical that it could have an effect only if you get selected further more if you show more interest by completing the migration forms and mailing them back....
 
It would be strange if it could harm you...otherwise it could harm everybody, since entering the DV lottery is showing your intent to become a preminent residence of the USA otheriwse you wouldn't enter....but like I mentioned before J1 visa holders have to finish their requirements before they can move to the USA and that takes 2 years...so after 2 years of leaving as an exchange student they can just as any one else, be eligible.
 
You wrong. It can affect any other visa applications that you may carry out. Suppose you enter the dv lottery and for some reason don't succeed during your interview. Then at a later point you decide to apply for a visitors visa. Your record will show that you at one point showed a strong interest to migrate to the US. That alone could be grounds for not getting a visitors visa. An application for an immigrant Visa is taken very seriously. This is all fact. I stand to be corrected, after you've done more research.

Could the DV Lottery affect someone that already holds a B1/B2 visa and was a winner of the dv process but failed during the interview? Does the b1/b2 visa get voided for this person?

Yes if you are denied the GC through the lottery it can affect your B visa.
