DV Lottery chances

Hello All,

I'm just starting to loook into this DV Lottery business and I'm very confused by all the information out there. Someone told me that the chance of being selected is approximately one in 20,000, but I saw a Visa Bulletin and it showed different numbers of visa for different areas, for example 900 from Oceania (the one I'm interested in).

Could anyone tell me, what would be the approximate chance of someone from Oceania being selected?

many thanks

what difference does it make?

there are 50,000 visas and about 6,000,000 participants. Each country gets no more that 7% of all visas.

Even if you get the "congratulations, you won!" letter, it doesn't mean you will actually get the visa. So many things could go wrong...

well...

LucyMO is correct that "many things can go wrong" after you receive the selection notice, however, I do have to disagree on one number... I was under the belief that there were well over 10,000,000 applicants for DV-2006 but I dont have any hard facts to prove that.

Regardless there are MANY people who enter the Green Card Lottery each year and only 50,000 Green Cards available. The US State Department typically selects well over the 50,000 number so that they can ensure that they award 50,000 Green Cards each year. In other words, maybe 80,000-100,000 people are selected but only 50,000 will actually take delivery of a green card.

Well, thats all for me for now!

:)

The DV info said those selected would be notified between May and July 2005. Does anyone know if there is a forum where people post when they have received a notification? It would be useful to know when they start sending them out and when they have stopped sending them out.

First notifications have already been received.

I don't read russian but I know someone who does. Thanks.

This will probably only be useful while they are working on Russia but once they move to other countries there probably isn't any way to track I guess.

actually, all of the former republics of the Soviet Union are on that forum. We have people from Moldova, Ukraine, Kazahstan, Uzbekistan, Latvia, Litva, etc. Lots of stories and lots of help.

Natives of Russia can't participate (so KCC is not working on Russia), but a lot of Russian citizens have been born in other countries, like me, so we can play!

That's great! We have someone in our office from Belaruse.

I wish there was a definite way of knowing when they were sending out notices for each country. It would be great if they would publish the info on the website.
