Was not selected in may got selected this time round!! Any others here from south Africa with a case number?

Greetings from a very hot Dubai. Also from SA but have no clue if I won on the first round as I could not check the website before it went down. Very exciting indeed. Started trying from 2006 and finally won! Now to try and locate my matric certificate as I lost it and am sure its going to be a mission to get from the GDE. Good luck with your paperwork processing.

Great! I got everything sorted only problem is I have already applied for an F-1 don"t know what"s going to happen now. AOS Perhaps?

Whats your CN by the way?

Not sure what that means but im presuming im in the 9000"S for visa interview?

I'm also trying to figure out how the numbering works. My number is listed in my signature. I guess that means that my number is 16000's? Is that low or high?

Your number is very low. Roughly speaking they process about 7 000 cases per month. That means (again, roughly speaking) you'll be up for an interview in the third month of processing, ie December 2011. That means you'll have to get cracking with getting your civil documents, specifically the unabridged birth certificates (home affairs can take forever with these), passport and your matric certificate.

It means your visa interview will be in October/November 2011. The higher the number, the longer you wait for an interview date.

If you want to make contact with other South Africans who have been through the Diversity Visa process I suggest you take a look at the SAUSA forum. It is a forum by South Africans for South Africans and you're bound to find everything you need to know on there.

Thanks guys! really helpful. I have almost all doccies excl. police clearance & my matric certificate :(. I have found a copy of it though so hopefully it won't be too painful to get hold of the original!

Hello from London,

I have also won in the DV-2012 (2nd time round, not so lucky in 1st round). My CN is 2012AF00067xxx (high nr) so I guess this means that I am going to have to wait pretty long before being called for an interview (?). Can anyone confirm?

I was born in SA but been living in the UK for 14 years, and been playing the DV lottery for the last 3 years. I figured what do I have to loose, right? So anyway I had a look at the paperwork that I would need during the interview, and the ones that stand out as a small problem for me are :

Birth certificates for me and my wife (We don't have the long-form type which I believe is required)
Marriage certificate (We don't have a the long-form type which I believe is required)
Police records (Looks like I will need to request this from both the SA and British Police)

As I will be needing ALL these docs, I am thinking of asking bunnyhop.co.za to get it for me. I am just hoping that we won't be receiving any more emails from the DOS explaining that this 2nd lottery result has to be redone as well.

Bunny hop would be your best bet. I actually used them for my passport which I need to pick up this week.
I have a slight problem though. I was planning on getting in with a F-1 to do my flight training next year, but now with the GC pretty much changes everything. I entered my dad into it, my mom is also listed. However they don"t want to go. Surely seeing now I'm 18 if I get the visa through him I will beable to enter myself and activate it? He can enter with me along with my mom but they will just fly out 2 weeks after. Will this cancel my status aswell the main applicant being out of the country?

Once you have the green card (ie become a permanent resident) your dad may leave for good if he wants to. He will loose his GC if he is absent from the US for more than 12 months, but yours wont be affect by his loss of PR.

It sounds like this is just a way for you to get a GC (as you parents dont want to go), so I would suggest that only you and your dad go to the interview and get the visas (the primary applicant has to be present and the family members who still want a visa). Then the 2 of you can travel to the US to activate the GC's after which your dad leaves. This way you'll save the cost of a Visa for your mother, cost of medicals of your mother, as well as the cost of a return flight for her to the US.

I am really happy for all of you that won the 2nd round of the lottery. I won the first round and I must say it is devastating to lose it. We are still fighting to have our win re-instated especially since we had our paperwork into KCC BEFORE the 13 May when they voided the draw. We did not win in the 2nd round but then not many of the 22K did.

I agree with you that it was devastating to annul the results for the 22k ...especially for those that had returned their forms. I have friends that fall into that category.

BTW, how are you fighting this to get reinstated. I thought the fight was over when the judge dismissed the case.

I am in the process of submitting documents for our Police Clearances and on the website it states that some countries require police clearances to be notarised as well. Should I request for notarisation of our police clearances when submitting the application? Any previous SA winners that have been through this that can assist with this query? tia

Hi Ice Queen,

I haven't reached the stage for obtaining the Police Clearance certificates yet, but I have made contact with both bunnyhop co za and www docassist co za that can help SAfricans working abroad to get these docs. I found that docassist to be a bit cheaper. I am planning to use either of these companies to get my Police Clearance certificates when I am a few months away from my interview date. These companies also offer to have your documents Apostilled.

Hope this helps!

PS - I sent you an email, not sure if you got it though.

I live in Australia and did not need to have it notarised or apostilled. They accepted the certificate exactly as it was issued by the SAPS.

Police Clearance

FYI for Saffers that are wondering how long it takes for the Police Clearance. I applied for my police clearance at the end of July and received it on 09 September. It takes approximately 8 weeks for processing.
