DV - 2008 Winner Help Please

DV08 Help Needed!

Hello:

I received my letter on May 5th, case number EU00017XXX, not too bad, country of eligibility is Bulgaria. I am an international student in the US and I wonder whether it will be better to apply for AOS or CP, and it's a big dilemma. I need your advice for these quesions:

With my number, when do you think I will be called for an interview if I do CP?

If I do CP, can I leave the US and return before my interview with the consular (I am in status)?

If my CP green card is denied, can I still come to the US with my F1 to finish school?

One more question: how soon do you think I should act with sending the forms to KCC if I am doing CP? Can I change to AOS (and how) after I have chosen CP?

With AOS, my case may not be current until May 2008. If I apply for AOS then, do you think that I will have a decision from USCIS by September 30th of '08?

Thanks for your help in advance! This is really a great forum! Good luck to everybody!

Help for dv 2008

Hello,

My husband and I won dv 2008. We filled in the dv forms somewhere in December and at the time we're not married but we have lived together for 2 years and were engaged.

However, we filled in as a married couple by mistake, we didn't really gave it any thought since where we live if you live together you have the same right as a married couple, and we were planning to get married in summer. Can any one tell us how this might affect our case? since it was just an honest mistake, and we are currently legally married.???

1. I think your number is a bit high. If case number becomes current later in the fiscal year, it is definately high. If you check archived visa bulletin (e.g. DV-2006), you will find your case number becomes current in July or August. Considering all procedure must be completed by September 30, your case number is high number. DV winner with very low case number such as under AS00001XXX will have interview in October 2007. So, higher the case number is, later you will have your interview.

2. Nobody knows exactly when you will have your inteview. Since your case number is high, you won't be able to find your number in bulletin until June or July 2008. What you can do now is to check archived bulletin, and estimate when your case number is likely to be current if the case progresses in a similar manner. June bulletin for DV-2007 will be issued very soon, so you will get the idea.

I'm pretty sure that you will have interview next year if you do CP. :) In some cases, the process might be delayed if people have to go through background check, for instance people from middle east. Did you check the latest visa bulletin for DV2007? Asia cut-off number for July is 7750. So, if DV2008 case progresses in same manner, you will have your interview in July 2008. Some people do have really high case number such as 2XXXX. So, your case number isn't that bad. So, don't worry too much.:D While you are waiting for your case number becomes current, you can take your time to read all these helpful threads about required documents for interview.

By the way, you can edit your comment after positing it using "Edit" on the bottom of the posting.

About affidavit of support, I think it is I-134 not I-864.
It may be too early to start collecting documents since you have another year.
In my DV2004 experience in Japan, the validity of the documents were like this:
  • police certificate --- usually valid for 1 year (must be valid at the time of interview)
  • medica examination record --- usually valid for 1 year (must be valid at the time of entering U.S)
  • birth certificate --- no expiration
  • educational records --- no expiration
I don't know if this is the case in other U.S. consulates, but if I were you I would start collecting documents next year.
It looks like some documents are vaild for only 6 months in other countries.

hi i have also same question as yours.I am also DV 2008 winner and i am going for CP but i am here in USA.So i don't know i will be able to return US using my F-1 visa or not.If you have any info reguarding this question please let me know.I have an interview on MArch 18 in US embassy of Nepal. Please email me at lamsal_56@yahoo.com.I will be waiting for your reply.........Thanks

are you sure? But my lawer told me that i will be able to return US using my F-1 visa if my visa is denied also.....please make sure.I am about to go for CP

your lawyer is incorrect. Once you have proven immigrant intent, it will be difficult to come back on a non-immigrant visa.

Hi, need some advise, my brother was told to take evidence of marriage. His wife was already expectant when he received the NL. He went for the interview, all was okay but was told that they want to make sure he did not marry just for the green card. They have been together for three yrs and they dont have many pics. They have emails, cards etc. Kindly help, they will be going back in a weeks time to take that evidence.

so what should i do?My appointment is already fixed for MArch in Nepal. Is there any way i can adjust my status?I know i have to fill up I-485 for AOS but i am not sure that i am eligible for the adjustment as i had mentioned CP in the form(DSP 230)which i had submitted to KCC earlier. So please suggest me.Also I have heard that AOS is complicated and took longer time.Is this true?directly email me at lamsal_56@yahoo.com
