Dual Citizenship concerns when Entering/Exiting US

Hi Everybody,
I am a dual citizen of Canada and India. I am married to a US citizen and I got my PR card not too long ago. When applying for the AOS, I applied using my Indian nationality as I was born there and I came to the US on an F-1 visa.
Next month, I will be visiting my family in Canada. To enter Canada, I will have to use my Canadian passport, but for coming back, I will have to use my Indian passport (because my GC states that my nationality is Indian). Is there anything to be concerned about when travelling using two different passports? Anybody has any idea what the US law states for cases like this?

Thank you.

Unless I am mistaken about Indiian law, this is not true. You are a Canadian citizen only.

This is incorrect on several fronts. First, you are not an Indian citizen. If you use your Indian passport you are attempting to enter the US with an invalid passport. That's a no-no. Second, there is absolutely no requirement that states that you must use an Indian passport just because your GC says your nationality is Indian.

If my sister got a Green Card, her GC would state "Czech" as her nationality, despite the fact that she has not had a Czech passport in over 40 years and no longer holds Czech citizenship.

I had dual citizenship from Portugal and Venezuela (my GC reads Venezuela). There was a time where I entered and I showed my GC and my portuguese passport. The officer said that the GC reads Venezuelan, I showed him the Venezuelan passport.

He then said, wow you are Venezuelan, Portugues, and will soon be American, that's awesome.

Hey, I am Venezuelan too ;)

sdevil98 - India does NOT have dual citizenship. Your Indian Passport needs to be cancelled at the closest Consulate office in the USA. Please clarify how you entered USA on the F-1 visa, you came in as a Canadian Passport holder, correct?
My guess is you immigrated to Canada with your family as a child, became a Canadian Citizen and did NOT get your Indian Passport cancelled, hence all this confusion. The day you became a Canadian Citizen, you CEASED to be an Indian Citizen. Any future use of your Indian Passport is considered illegal. Read comment posted by Punjabdaputtar.
Punjabdaputtar - While you are right about what you say to the OP, could you please desist from name calling. Not good. SKGhori aka Triplecitizen has been a very valued contributor to this forum. Lets keep it professional and non-personal here. And he is right in the sense that OP does not have problem simply by being a Canadian national ONLY. He never dealt with the part of being/not being an Indian National. Hope this helps? :)

I just want him to be more responsible. Thats it. I do think he has been very valuable and helpful on the forum. I was surprised myself when he posted without validating the Indian's govt.'s stance.

His post, IIRC, was factually accurate. He did indicate that the OP was not an Indian citizen.

Who told you that India does not have a Dual citizenship program ? Please keep yourself informed , Indian parliament has approved the dual citizenship bill

franticsky -

I do keep myself informed, i do not need your help in doing so. The Indian Parliament has only discussed Dual citizenship issues and as such as of TODAY, there is NO dual citizenship allowed. You want to keep yourself updated? check the Link below...

Please do not supply incorrect and half-baked information if you have no way of backing it up. Thanks.

TC - Thanks for your comments.

Franticsky - busy keeping yourself informed? not a peep from you :). I guess you are glued to the weblink i sent you? And BTW - Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) is NOT the same as Dual Citizenship). Got that?? :)

Absolutely false, just like others have said. India has no DUAL Citizenship. To get Dual Citizenship, a change in the Indian constitution would have been needed (with 2/3rd Majority). What India did was to change the Passport Act of 1967 and provided another class of Overseas Citizens. OCI is a glorified PIO in my humble opinion.

There is no right to vote (the fundamental right of a Citizen).
