Dual Citizen Traveling to Canada

Hello,

I just found this website with information for Holders of Canadian and American Citizenship.

It has the information about using your Canadian Passport to enter Canada and the American Passport for entering the USA.

http://www.amcits.com/enter_canada.asp

I am sure that if you travel by car and it is licensed in the USA, then you better have your U.S. information handy so they do not think that you are trying to import the vehicle into Canada.....

I'm curious as to how many dual citizens between the US and Canada use both passports compared to those that only choose to use the US passport for both?

I hold both and have heard people do it both ways. In my opinon I think my first visit back to Canada will be just with my US passport and leave my Canadian one at home in the US. I just don't want to be carrying 2 passports around if I can help it. I figure I have as much chance of getting into Canada as most other Americans so I just don't see why bringing the Canadian one would do much (other then if they were to some reason want to deny me entry which being the average tourist, there isn't any).

Just curious how many have crossed with just the US passport?

Same is true for dual citizenship holders visiting Cuba via Canada. I've read that in US eyes, you're considered a US citizen, even if you travel with Canadian passport, although I don't know how US officials can ever find out.

Uh yeah, well if your a US citizen (dual or otherwise) you better not let the US govt find out about you going to Cuba. They have some pretty hefty fines that they're not shy about handing out.

Ever since I have become a citizen of both, I have always traveled with both passports and presented myself as their citizen when I approach either side. The Canadians have always taken my verbal declaration of being Canadian. Seeing that my cars have IL plates, at times they just ask what my status is in the US. Nothing more. It has always been an event free crossing for me.
